I became Thane of the Reach, bought Vlindrell Hall, did The Forswarn Conspiracy and sided with the Forswarn. Then people started saying they saw me escape with the forswarn, and the Yarl and Thalmor went hostile. I then got the bribe guards perk. Now whenever I go to the Reach the guard attempts an arrest and I get the options:

I was framed
Ok take me to jail
I'd rather die

when I say, "ok take me to jail" the guard says, "you'll never escape Cidnha mine" at which point I get the option to say, "What's wrong?" or just ignore. Saying what's wrong brings the conversation back to square one, and ignoring makes the guard say "Well OK then" and sheath his weapon.

The moment he sheaths his weapon, he then attempts another arrest and we are back at square one. There is no way I can get one of them to take me to jail or let me pay a fine. The only escape is to ignore the first arrest attempt then fight my way out, or whirlwind sprinting in the split second between the guard sheathing and unsheathing his weapon.

Is there any way out of this?

On a side note, it did bring about a situation where I had to sneak into Markarth in the dead of night using invisibility potions, waking Cosnach up, "MY FAVOURITE DRINKING BUDDY" and sneaking back out with him, because I'd sent him home before I'd discovered the bug.

I have the same problem on my main PC , even hough I killed the king in rags and used his key to escape myself,The guards now do an endless arrest loop.

Perhaps we have some other things in common.Being thane When the guards tried framing me at the shrine , I was outraged and killed them.

I already finished the civil war quest and sided with the stormcloaks.

I was in the middle of the abandoned house quest , but hadn't quite finished it yet. ( maces don't excite me so meh)

So the guards trying to arrest me are actually tagged as "stormclaok soldier" and others "stormcloak guard"

Even the silver-blood guy came out and gave some speech about what I did was awesome blah blah and gave me a family smithing ring.

I have even tried using the console command for "setcrimegold" and the actual faction ID won't budge going down , but I can add money to the bounty which is over 40,000 gold somehow.

The only other thing I did was played it through the first time and helped the kind in rags escape , and when I saw him rampaging through the streets I reset to a save before I even talked to him and proceeded to kill him.

I'm not touching that quest with a 10-foot pole on any other PC till I can figure this out , and it's made me really dislike being anywhere near Markath TBH.

Thinking about it I think there's a flag not resetting from the beginning o the quest as it's necessary for you to have absolutely no way out o going to jail to advance the quest and it's not clearing for some reason afterwards. Because the guard till says ,"Oh no , there's no getting out of it this time, not for what you did." Just like for the quest to get you thrown in jail.

Anybody with more technical expertise out there? I'm mystified with the console beyond basic things like bounties etc.

I'm disliking going to Markarth because of this too


wiki just says it is impossible to enter the hold.

I think I'll go to drudach redoubt and kill Madanach see what happens
