SkyPortals

It's RAW. It's UNPOLISHED. It's also a WIP.

But it works and I intend to expand on it!



This mod was inspired by Oblivion's "The Ayleid Steps" mod by Ervvyn (and many, many thanks to him for allowing me to use any of the text from TAS if I should choose to use it). :smile:

This mod adds http://i429.photobucket.com/albums/qq11/aellis-photos/TeleportAlter.jpg throughout Skyrim. With this release, you will be teleported randomly to one of 103 locations or to one of 22 "addresses".

Addresses? It requires four filled Soulgems to activate a http://i429.photobucket.com/albums/qq11/aellis-photos/Teleporter.jpg completely. What Soulgem you use and the order in which you use it will determine the location's address. At some point in future releases, I'll create / give you a manner in which to pre-determine what a location's address might be.
For the time being, as a "gimme", any combination of Petty and Lesser Soulgems will create a portal to the outskirts of a city or settlement. And if you pay attention, that same combination will teleport you to the same location from any altar.
Some of the altar placements are quite near bad guys, just so you know. They are all over - in caves, forts, camps, water, crypts, houses, etc.

Additional locations (both new / vanilla) and a quest or two are in the works. But for now, this mod just adds some randomness to your play.

Warning!! I did not pay close attention to where I placed the altars in relation to vanilla quests. Clearing a location may result in either breaking a quest or completing one before you have received it. Always make a save before using a portal just in case. Should that happen, please post a note here or on skyrimnexus and I'll see about relocating the altar.

There was a minor issue in testing - Soulgems created with the SmartSouls mod were not considered by the game engine to be filled. I don't know if this is due to something on my system, a flaw within the game engine, or something to do with SmartSouls.

Q&A:
Q. Will this conflict with XYZ mod?
A. Probably. If XYZ mod alters the landscape in a cell where I've placed an altar or alters the interior cell where i've placed an altar.

Q. Is this compatible with Open Cities?
A. It should be, though I do not have OC in my load order. I did not place any altars in any other worldspace except Tamriel.

Q. Oh Great. Isn't this just another fast travel mod?
A. No. With the exception of a relative few locations, all teleportations will be randomly selected at the time of activation of the teleporter. Besides that, there are no quest markers.

Q. Why Soulgems?
A. Because.

Q. How do I figure out the address of a particular location?
A. I don't know... Yet. I plan to write and voice a quest to explain why the altars are there and what you will need to do to prevent a "crisis".

Installation
============
Manual Install
--------------
1. Extract this archive to any folder and then copy the contents to Skyrim's Data folder.
2. Start the Skyrim Launcher, activate the esp, play.

Wrye Bash BAIN Install
----------------------
1. Copy the archive to (install folder)\Skyrim Mods\Bash Installers\
2. Start Wrye Bash and click on the Installers tab.
3. In the Packages window, right click on the Archive and select install.

Incompatibilities / Known Issues
================================
This mod does not seem to like Soulgems created and filled by the SmartSouls mod by shadeMe. I don't know why.
To maintain compatibility with the Open Cities mod by Arthmoor, I have not placed any altars in any of the ciy worldspaces.
This mod may / will have problems with any other mod that alters the landscape of the Tamriel worldspace exterior cells where I have placed
an altar. The same applies to any of the interior cells. I will send a complete list of the cells altered on request.
