Decided to restart playing skyrim. It seems that update 1.5 broke kill moves for me, as melee ones often bug out. They either don't play, dumping me back to control after a tiny amount of the animation, or I get stuck for the full duration of the animation with nothing happening (usually this occurs for first person kill moves). If I quicksave, restart the game and load, it usually gets me past this, but if I don't, the bug just keeps reoccuring, meaning I can't kill the enemy in front of me. It's not a mod causing it, as no mods I have installed affect kill moves in the slightest. I did have one that did affect them, but it bugged out too, even after disabling it, so I reinstalled the game to get rid of it - the kill moves were still bugged on a clean install.

Any ideas how to fix this, or do I just keep quicksaving, reloading and hope the next update fixes it?
