Is there anyway to have Steam Community on without sound spo

Post » Fri Jun 01, 2012 6:40 pm

To get screenshots of the game you need to have Steam community tab on. To get the screenshots I have to quit the game, turn voices off, then community on and start the game and take the shots I want. It's quite annoying I can't take the pictures during the gaming. When I have community on my sounds are not coming only from my headphones - they are coming from both headphones and speakers. This is something I can't play with because when I have time to play Skyrim my children are sleeping and I don't want to wake them up. So is there anyway to have voices coming only from the headphones when the community is on?

You can disable all of the community sounds in steam settings under friends tab.

Are you sure this works? I ask because they are sounds of the game (not the community) but they coming from the wrong source when community is on.

I'm not sure what you mean by that.

Are you talking about the sounds that steam makes when a friend signs online or when you take a screen shot? if so then all of those sounds can be turned off in steam settings.

No, I don't have friends in Steam - I only have it because of Skyrim. I have not heard any community sounds at all. I'm talking about the sounds of the Skyrim. Normally when I have headphones on my computer the sounds are coming from them and speakers are staying quiet. This changes when the community is on: sounds are coming through the speakers even the headphones are on.

So you want the game sounds in your headphones while steam community is enabled?

If on windows 7, Go to control panel, then sounds. click on the playback tab and then right click on your headphones in the list and set them as the default device. I am guessing its the same for Vista. If you're on XP then i don't know.

Now you have understand my problem. I have windows 7 but the problem is that there's only one device "speakers and headphones" normally it gives sound in speakers when there's no headphones and when there is the sound is coming from them. When the steam community is on nothing in settings of windows seems to change but the sounds starts to come from both speakers and headphones. So I believe it's connected in steam voice settings but I have no idea how to fix it.

Okay, go to steam settings then click on voice tab then change device and see if that works.
This is the only way i know of changing audio device on steam.

If not, this may sound simple but can't you just turn your speakers off when you have headphones plugged in?

It didn't work. And it's not so easy to turn the speakers off. This is laptop and the speakers can't be turned off and if I remove them from using it will kill all the voices because they seems to be part of the same device with the sound card.

Oh a laptop, okay the only thing i can think of is go to the steam forums and ask there, i am sure somebody has figured it out.
