Need tips on "One With The Shadows" achievement PLZ!

Post » Sat Jun 02, 2012 2:32 am

This is the last achievement I need. I went and looked up some vids on youtube for some tips and I came across possible bugs.

Apparently, if you sell off your "Thieves Guild" armor you will not be able to get the achievement. Well, I went and sold it off of course (somewhere around 35 to 50 saves ago), so now I'm kicking myself in the shin. Since you are in fact able to sell the armor (unlike "quest" items) is it just a bug that will eventually be patched, or did I just royally screw myself and have to go back and start over?

Has anyone gotten the achievement/trophy while still having sold their "Thieves Guild" armor?

Any other advice or tips on possible bugs/snags I could run into on this one? NOTE: I have already returned the Skeleton Key to the Twilight Sepulcher.

If you play on the PC, you can use console commands to retrieve the armor. If you're on a xbox/ps3, you'll be stuck until Beth fixes the issue.

You don't get the achievement for finishing the thieves guild main quest. You need to complete 5 side missions in Markarth, Whiterun, Winterhold, and Solitude. Once you have done five you will be given a special mission for each city. The reward is a new vendor in the ragged flagon per city completed. Once you have done all 4 special missions you will become the guild leader and unlock the achievement.

To speed things up cancel missions for Riften and any city's you have completed. Vex and Delvin will say a lot about you getting in trouble for canceling missions but just ignore them.

If you're on consoles, you're pretty screwed. It's still amazing me how many people sold off that armor, mind boggling really. xP

If you already upgraded a piece of armor you should be fine. If you didn't then your stuck.

I sold the armour right away as what I had was much better and have the achievment. I had no trouble at all doing any thieves mission with out it.

It would have been nice to make those items unsaleable like many of the quest items. IMO you should be able to know all of these things IN GAME without having to come on here to get advice and/or search through the elder scrolls wiki.

Oh well. Still a great game.

I bought the house in Windhelm, and put this armor on one of the maniquins. I got lucky, I guess. I am a bit of a hoarder, so that helped.

it's not that mind boggling.

of course it's common sense to "follow directions" when they say dont sell the armor, but no one follows directions. and the armor itself is not that great. so its no surprise to me that many people sell this right away. its more funny than mind boggling

"One with the Shadows" is gotten by completing the additional jobs with Vex and Delvin, and perfoming the special job for each city. After this, and completing the main Thieves' Guild Questline, you do a little ceremony and become guildmaster. Then you get the achievement. You don't need the armor.

Unless you haven't already upgraded one piece of the armor with the guild fence Tonila before the ceremony....
If you haven't upgraded a piece, and don't have any of them on you, the guild fence will ask which piece you want to upgrade after the ceremony. There is currently no way to bypass this dialog, so she won't give you the guildmaster armor set unless you've traded in a piece of the original armor. On 360 at least, you do not get the achievement until you get the guildmaster armor set.
