really need some storage...

Post » Fri Jun 01, 2012 9:52 pm

ok, i made a second character, and im going through the thieves guild and dark brotherhood questlines with her... i dont plan on doing the main quest with her, though... atleast not before finishing these factions, so that means i cant get any of the houses in the cities, right?

does anyone know where i can store items safely?

i dont think there are any safe containers in either of these factions' hideouts, i'd rather not risk experimentation.

i recall molag bal's quest getting me that abandoned house in markarth, but is that place really safe to store items?

i did plan on doing the daedric quests with my evil character, so i could collect them all... so i suppose molag bal's might work... if its available to me, anyway... im only level 5 with her.

oh, one final question, kinda unrelated... i noticed the dark brotherhood has a werewolf in their midst... that is so unfair.

i'd love to make my villain a werewolf, but the only way to become a werewolf is to do the companions' questline... and they're GOOD GUYS!

this svcks, being forced to be a good guy in order to become a vicious monster?

thats a damn kick in the teeth.

Breezehome, in Whiterun, is the only house that requires doing the main quest in order to be able to buy it. You should be able to buy the houses available in Riften, Markarth, and Solitude fairly easily. The house in Windhelm requires the civil war quest, though, so that one is up to you.

oh... well, still... i need to be level 20 or something to get the house in markarth, dont i?

so... that isnt gonna happen anytime soon, and thats the only other house i like other than whiterun's home.

could someone suggest something i can use... now?

as i asked earlier, is the abandoned house from molag bal's quest safe to store stuff in?

im not sure if im able to do that quest yet, only being level 5, but it might be the earliest house i can get.

If you finish the Dark Brotherhood, the master bedroom is safe to store items. In fact, I think the whole place is safe. At least, the Dawnstar Sanctuary is.

I don't think there's a level limit on the quests for the Markarth house... Talk to Jarl Igmund, he tells you to clear a random Forsworn camp. Come back, he tells you to go retrieve a shield from another random Forsworn camp. Then you can buy the house. I'm pretty sure I've done that before level 20 (the Hagraven in that second quest can be a bit dicey, though).

no... i wasnt able to get that quest from the jarl until i was level 20, im pretty sure... until i looked it up, i thought i had messed up or ran into a glitch.

...still not getting a good answer... people saying the same thing over and over again... i'll ask again... is the abandoned house from molag bal's quest... safe to use?

Get married. You can use your spouse's home for storage if I'm not mistaken. Playing an evil character and don't want to be married? Kill your spouse. ;) So you're killing someone...for their house. :D

Right there in the thieves' guild at the foot of the bed you're able to sleep in.The practice chests when you unlock them. You can become thane of riften easy enough and I like the house for it's back door into the city , but while you're making money and getting in good you do have storage. When you complete the thieves guild main part you'll have access to an entire hall which I can't be bothered to double-check , but I've never seen anybody wandering around in there after everything is done , yet a bed or 2 will say (owned).

Honeyside in Riften isn't too hard to get. And it's almost as cheap as Breezehome.

There isn't a level limit on Riften, just need the coin.

The mercenary lady in the Bannered Mare will marry you after you beat her in a brawl, and the same with the lady you give the tusk to. They both have homes in Whiterun.

Anise's cabin. There's a bed - a drawer, cabinet and an alchemy sachel that doesn't reset. DON'T USE THE BARREL. Downstairs there's an arcane enchanter and that thing you mix potions with. Riverwood is next store for vending.

But you have to kill Anise. And her sisters will send thugs after you. But you get a house for free basically. That's my home base. 50 hours in.

well, UESP wiki says the abandoned house is completely safe to use... i'll probably just go for that.

the houses in the cities are annoying because of all the glitches they share...

i may marry someone... but are there any evil/dark people you can marry?

im playing as an assassin-thief, corpse-eating daedra worshipper, basically... and i'd like for her to be a werewolf, as well... but that requires being a good guy, for some stupid reason, since you can only become one through the companions' storyline.

I dunno about truly evil, but some of them are a bit shady, at least... There's a dark elf in Riften who works at the Black-Briar Meadery but sells the mead on the black market, and there's always Ysolda (she seems nice on the surface, but is a dealer of Sleeping Tree Sap), and Muiri summoned the Dark Brotherhood to kill her last lover... Hmm, can't think of any others right now, but I'm sure there are more.

You know those two barrels just between beezehome and the smith? I have been storing stuff on them since 30 play hours ago.

The Thieves Guild always provides you with a bed and a chest for storage, Just use that. I'm pretty sure every guild or faction gives you some sort of sleeping quarters and a storage unit. I started off by using the chest the Companions gave me when I first joined up with them.

Also, it's easy to get a house and furnishings without paying and without cheating. I've done it for several houses. I've typed it all out on this forum so many times I don't feel like doing it again in less I know someone is interested. Just message me if you'd like to know. It works on both consoles and the PC. It involves shoving the steward of any city of to a nearby storage unit and quickly dumping your gold into it before they charge you for the house. Then pick all your gold back up and you have a free house. It's simple, quicks, and a great way to get free houses without cheating.

If you're using a PC, help yourself with the console and unlock the door to the basemant of the inn in Riverwood. The empty chest there is safe. I've been using it for more than 180 in game days.

If you don't want to do the main quest, the easiest house to get is in Solitude. You've to do three quests in total, one of which is just a simple fedex type of quest.

Which bed and chest? I've been trying to find an unowned bed in that place since I started playing.

*somewhat major spoiler alert*
1. I've finished the main quest lines (faction, civil war and dragons) got a house and managed to have epic amounts of money left over by level 17... had the house at level 10 and only because I tried to have the one in Windhelm and holy crap is that a glitched chain and a haunted bloody house. Not cursing for the EU guys here, it's literally a multiple murder scene. Had to go back to Whiterun and humble myself with the same house my other characters have had. lol

The nice thing about the way Bethesda runs things is that they're not running anything. Anyone who suggests you have to be a certain level to do anything is lying to you or has been misguided. Period.

The "Thane" quests are not level tied, they are activity tied. Some of the chains will change if you have done the Imperial or Stormcloak quest chains, and the Jarls still only want you to be known by their people by doing quests to help the locals out and have bounty or other sorts of quests. (See the end where I explain how Jarl Black-Briar rewards the Dragonborn who promotes her.)

Do what you wanna by your own plan and if storing your things where they might be stolen isn't such a big deal to you, there's barrels outside of the Warmaiden's just in the main gate at Whiterun, and for the shortest amount of time I stored some stuff there, it seemed to stay.

2. there's a game tip... the only place in the game that's really safe is a house you own... every other place has a chance that you will store things and they will not be there when you return.

I'd recommend that you can quickly have the house in Whiterun, and as it's the cheapest to outfit you have unlimited storage if you just pay the 300 gold to have a bedroom after plunking down the 5000 gold for the house.

Me personally? I love the house in Rifton, and there's a secsy exploit if you didn't take sides in the civil war quest and during the summit you give the Empire Rifton... boy is Maven really happy to know you. So happy you're an instant friend of the throne. Just gotta buy the house and wow... inflation... outfit it which isn't cheap. Even stuff on the floor stays where you put it in your own home. Isn't playing a game where you're the only thinking player a good thing sometimes? Who would loot your loots?

The one by itself on the right as you enter the Cistern from the Ragged Flagon.

Amusingly, if you complete all their quests and become Guild Master, they don't even give you your own bedroom, but just put up a screen around your bed.

The lab in Blackreach (which is inconvenient) and the two barrels outside the Whiterun smithy are good for a "long time."
Not sure how long, but it lasts forever as far as I could tell. Long enough until you get your own place going.
