You can do the old conjuration- shoot it with a bow trick. But that is mad boring.
Easier to just run around and shoot things and its more fun.

Additionally, you can learn from http://www.uesp.net/wiki/Skyrim:Angi.

Angi, and also the Faendal train/trade trick once every level.

The archery training thing is THE reason I always help Faendal and not Sven.

you can do the exploit with the guy who works at the mill in riverwood to get it up to level 50 for free.

Step one is to play a Wood Elf. They start with 25 Archery.

One training trick early on is to help out Faendal in Riverwood, them make him a Follower. Then have him train you (you'll need enough gold to pay the first time). After each time you train, use the dialog option to trade items, and simply take back the gold you just paid him (works with any trainer that you've made a Follower). Remember that you can train 5 times each time you level up. He can only take you to level 50, but there are two other trainers who can get you higher.

And shoot stuff. Try to use the bow exclusively, even in close combat (don't forget you can bash with it -- put perks into blocking). Get used to shooting while backing up and spinning around. An added bonus is that you'll probably be upping your armor skills too. Just watch your health. It's better to be a stealthy sniper. You can gradually take down bosses one arrow at a time if you're well-hidden. Just make sure you telll any Follower you might have to "wait here" while you do your sneaking and sniping -- they'll screw it up every time by charging straight in.

edited to add: LOL, while I was typing all that, two other people mentioned Faendal.

Another way is kind of [censored] and drawn out, but it works. Essentially leveling up is based on hits you make on live targets, excluding Angi's mini-game. If you get the weakest long bow you can find, collect up some forsworn arrows, and find a couple of mammoths near a large rock/small cliff, you could conceivably fill those mammoths with arrows without killing them for 30 or 40 minutes... just save your perks as you level up because over-draw will power up your bow shots making each shot more damaging.....

Shoot sleeping graybeards to simultaneously level stealth and archery. Helps to wait til there are at least two sleeping in their beds, that way you can shoot one 3 times (it seems on the fourth shot they wake up), then just move to the next guy. Also, as someone else has mentioned, don't use a powerful bow. I'd go a step farther and say don't put any damage dealing perks into archery until you've got your skill as hihg as you want to train it either, because once you've gotten an essential NPC down to zero health, they just kinda of crouch in the fetal position for awhile and your attacks, even if they land, don't count toward levelling.

Agreed. It's really the only reason to even bother with that little Miscellaneous Errand.
