Better to find? Or better to make?

Is it more fun to make your own weapons and armors? Or more fun to "find" them?

Both can be fun, just set yourself some limits not to powerlevel the crafting skills.

For example, "don't craft X type of armor before X level" (ie: Daedric before 50). You can still raise your smithing and upgrade a good item you found before that X level but simply not craft it yet. That way you'll be happy to find good loot and also be happy your crafting skill can upgrade it even stronger. Best of both worlds.

Personally, I like to make most of my gear. Then, I enchant it as needed. Because of the fact that there's no way to strip the enchantments and re-do them, this causes me to need to make more gears when my Enchanting goes up enough, so I can do another set of enchants. This repeats for quite a while, and I enjoy it.

Plus the occasional epic hunt for dragon bits or Ebony/Hearts can be interesting.

Finding it is more fun and feels more rewarding. This game doesn't even feel rewarding when you craft your own OP gear.
I still stand on my opinion that smithing is the worst feature in skyrim.

And what about Enchanting?

I don't use enchanting but from what people are saying it's just as OP as smithing.

My hunter will only ever use stuff he makes and won't buy materials from merchants, he'll mine and hunt for leather and ore. I haven't gotten to the point of making that character though, as I'm unable to have my D.I.D. orc blacksmith be killed by anything, he's too good even without the berserk power. Got to go dragon hunting..

I've never enchanted on Skyrim. I love still having a reason and an urge to dungeon dive and treasure hunt.

If I make an uber set of gear, then what's the point of looking for loot?

Because you don't know all the enchants yet?

I STILL haven't found an item with Waterbreathing for me to disenchant. That enchantment just eludes me. Finally stumbled across a muffle enchant this morning.

It is much more fun to find unique looking, powerful artifacts but unfortunately there are so very few of those around. So I have to smith them myself.

I've never touched enchanting or smithing, yet, and prefer hunting for my valuable loot.

I love finding personally, its early days but I found my first suit of dwarven armour yesterday (actually 2 suits, one encharted, both in the same chest), well happy!

Are you just trying to be a completionist or is there an actual use for that [censored] ability?

On topic: finding stuff is generally more rewarding IMO...especially enchanted stuff.

Fun? That's up to you.

However, it's a lot easier to make your own armor.

Its always epic to find great loot, but becoming a master blacksmith allows you to enhance those items, which is also epic.

I also use alchemey potions I create to enhance enchanting and Balcksmithing capabilities.

Enchenting items like gloves and jewelery, with fortify blacksmith also increases the effects of your upgrading skills on looted items

More fun to make. Aside from a couple of jewelry items and starting gear, I'm only using one item that I didn't craft myself. It made the early game fairly tough and has made the late game somewhat of a challenge. I'm Level 48 at the moment, but Alchemy and Enchanting are still in the 30s, so I'm using stuff with higher base damage and far weaker enchantments than is turning up in loot. But it's more fun since it's my stuff.
