Not stolen items becomes stolen ....huh ?

Post » Sat Jun 02, 2012 5:07 am

Went on a rampage and did some quests which brought me to kill some bandit leaders
and after each fight, i looted their Steel armors for upgrading & enchanting to be sold
at a higher price.

After my "adventure" i went home, did some upgrading and enchanted with cheap stuff
to up my skills. But when i wanted to sell the stuff, everything had turned to STOLEN.

The thing is. At the enchanter in Dragons Reach, i took everything from my companion,
enchanted it and then dropped it on the floor to have her pick it up, that was when most
of the items flashed as stolen, even tho i had gotten them from killing thief leaders.

So WTF ?. Sure, i can probably sell them to some less caring merchant..

But this is clearly a bug and needs to be sorted out ASAP.

I am currently sitting on 4 Steel Armors, 6 Bracers, 5 boots and no where to sell them.

Yeah, I remember reading somewhere that this is a bug. It does work both ways though. Check uespwiki or just google.

Yes you are right. The developers should leave everything they are busy with and immediatly create a patch just for you because by the Eight your demands outweigh all the other much bigger issues that needs fixing. It's an absolute outrage that you should find a bug while exploiting the game mechanics. How dare they! [/sarcasm]

What the F*&K are you talking! Exploiting the game mechanics, what! Collecting, smithing, enchanting and then selling are key game elements that are crucial to levelling your skills!
Although I agree that it might not be the most important bug to devote time to figuring out, It is still an important issue to rectify.

You people that look for threads to provide you with an opportunity to RIP into someone really burn my ass. Can't you find something better to do. Like tear some Forsworn scum a new one.

Yes, explointing the game mechanics.

The only reason why he would do that is because he wanted to haul much more stuff around than what he should be able to. Letting your companion pick up stuff so that there is no weight penalty is called an exploit. A mostly harmless one but it's still an exploit because the game was not designed with the idea in mind that a player would drop all his gear somwhere for his follower to pick up.

Yes it should and probably will be fixed and so will the bug that allows followers unlimited carry capacity. However, getting demanding over something that can in actual fact be prevented is silly.

The only reason why i am using that "exploit" is because the companions Stamina doesn't increase... ever.

So when you progress further into the game and thus, give your companion better armor, she/he can
carry less and less, ending up with maybe picking up 1 chestpiece and that's it.

How is looting exploiting game mechanics? Really? Isn't the game about killing and looting, upgrading and selling. REALLY? And I read your follow up post and still disagree with you.

Same bug was present in Oblivion. If you dropped something inside an 'owned' space, that item became owned by the owner of the space. Imagine my surprise when I opened my Arcane chest, and then was instantly mobbed by guards/patrons for being a thief..... Solution: Don't drop stuff inside......

I was pretty confused the first time this happened to me. I've had some luck getting the stolen tag removed by dropping the items and picking them back up myself. Sometimes it takes a few attempts to get the tag removed, but eventually it goes away.

These days I have a few fences I can go to, so I don't bother erasing the stolen tag.

Today i spent about 1 hour at the Smith and enchanter making Legendary Steel-plates infused with
destruction enchant for max value, went to my own house, dropped all plates on the floor of MY OWN HOUSE
and behold.... all those items got tagged as stolen...

So a warning to all. Don't drop anything on the floor, ever. I am happy i saved before doing that
because each of those armors sold for 998 each....

This crap needs to be fixed. I got a barrel with loot marked "stolen" because of this stupid bug.

it may seem an oblivious and somewhat simple question but... why would you drop it on the floor and not into a crate etc?

If I'm not going to sell something I use the little wardrobe right by the door of my house in whiterun... well, or other houses have other spots, anyway... anything I don't want to carry and do want to sell, including spare gems etc... they pile very nicely in that space that's visually too small for them. I once did a round the world selling spree that makes the cat vendors look lazy in mileage and dedication and made more than 30000 gold off of what I'd piled up in there and was too lazy to go sell.

oh, and if it's just weight... steed stone... roughly directly west from Solitude... 100 extra points to carry capacity.

The "stolen" bug is being worked on, along with about 10,000 others that are irritating and not really game threatening, just unexpected by some players and so rapidly forum materials. Trading to companions creates extra invisible weight on them and eventually they can't even take a book because it's too heavy... try getting the house in Windhelm. zomg... lots of bugs. lots of strage new problems to work around until they're fixed.

why does it have to be a burn fest instead of a moment of "yeah, man... svcks to be you" or "yeah, that svcked for me too" and move on?
