Did I just beat MQ?

Post » Fri Jun 01, 2012 11:39 pm

I am currently level 20 and before I decided I would just go through the MQ to see what it was like. I started at about level 15 and I am pretty sure I just finished it. I beat Alduin in Sovngarde and I go back and I am the big hero. Is the MQ completed for me or is there more to it?

It was beyond lame. I barely even fought in the main quest. The one for Oblivion was a little bit tougher

Why not have the main end game be an epic battle requiring different strategy and many reloads?

I was hoping for at least something epic like in Oblivion's. Despite the quality of its MQ, you have to admit, the final "battle" was interesting, and so was recruiting the towns and defending Bruma.

Isn't that Civil War another part of the "Main Quest"?

Not tough? No fighting? I thought that the fight against Alduin at the throat of the world was pretty intense  And obviously for a strong character beating the MQ is easier. I feel personally this MQ is better than the one in Oblivion. The story is more interesting and less predictable.

Alduin in Sovngarde was a disappointment. No new tricks, goes down really fast even on master, and you have 3 invincible npcs tanking him for you.

You ride on a dragon and discover the portal to the equivalent of Valhalla for the Nords, Sovngarde, you enter the Hall of Valor and meet legendary Nord heroes that you could never dream of meeting, and you have the opportunity to eat and drink and be in the presence of Shor--even though you can't see him--then you and the three Nord heroes of old who banished Alduin finally fight the Dragon God of Time in his weakened state, shouting away the fog together, then engaging in glorious battle against the dragon. You alone get the glory of dealing the final blow to Alduin. Afterward, the three heroes cheer and sing of your glory, and you are promised a place in Sovngarde. Tsun also grants you the ability to call upon a hero from Sovngarde to fight with you. Upon returning to Mundus, several dragons give you a flying salute in their native tongue, and Paarthurnax gives a badass speech praising your actions, while Odahviing pledges his allegiance to you.

Soooo lame. How boring! I didn't get a ring!

If you haven't completed the Civil War for either one side or the other at this point in the main quest then you'll have to broker a peace between the two sides (or finish the whole thing) before you can continue.

Meh, the only reason to do the MQ is to get decent shouts and for civil war related influence/humour.

I suggest starting a new character, and waiting until lvl 50+. Maybe start the Main quest, but hold off a bit after meeting Esbern.

Walk more.

Find more unique loot, don't just craft..

There is a mod over at skyrim nexus that makes the Alduin fight (and other random dragon fights) epic struggles, enough that it can become a make-or-break moment for some people.

Look it up, "Deadly Dragons".

Since it's an RPG, I don't blame them too much for the fight quality. I mean, combat generally revolves around hit points in the entire genre. Not puzzles or reading movement patterns, which are more typical of other games. It'd be nice, as I prefer a blend, but most rpg developers don't think that way. Some of them don't even come from a video gaming centric point of view, but are old pen and paper vets.
