Just lost Faendal. Looking for another follower that lays back or does ranged attacks. Recommendations?

Lydia seemed to prefer ranged combat whenever I give her a bow. But too be honest I have very little experience with followers as a) they are too slow most of the time and b ) I always fear them getting killed and I prefer them all alive and well.

I have had J'zargo, who does ranged mage attacks, but I like Marcurio better - I think he had better spells and was not afraid to use any staves I gave him. Plus he had more to day. Janessa, in the Drunken Huntsmen, can be hired - she seems to be primarily ranged, bow.

none of em are great for laying back, sometimes i'll have em wait and scount ahead....the dark brotherhood initiates are prob the stealthiest, they do lay back behind cover, annaka crag jumper is pretty stealthy but not real powerful...early in the game i use fendal till i reach 50 archery, then i use aela till i reach 75 at archery, thats usually around level 30, then i get brelyn and eola and i interchange both of em...they both work well, they are expert at sneak but they're on the offense a lot though.

Jordis is my companion. Even though her title is shield maiden, she always hangs back and uses her bow.

Aranea Ienith (a mage) uses ranged attacks, plus summons atronachs. She'll equip melee weapons when you're just walking around, but always puts them away and uses spells (and/or staffs that you give her) when in combat.

Eola hangs back and likes to use staves, but you have to watch out for the freindly fire.
