I'm aware that because I have never beaten the game and I have only been playing for the past few days, that it's difficult to accurately pinpoint how far I've gone into the main story. That said, I feel like I've made a lot of progress -- perhaps too much progress in too little time. My character is only around level 15 at the moment yet I'm near the part where I'll be off to Skuldafn. I'm wondering if perhaps I should focus first on improving my character and doing other quests until I'm at a higher level.

If you are only doing the main quest prepare to be done playing early. Go off on an adventure, do a side guild or just do some regular quests.

Absolutely. There's so much more than just the main quest.
