I was able to win that fight when my level was in the high 20's. My character is primarily an archer, so I fortified my archery as much as possible with enchanted items and potions, used my best arrows, and fortified my resistance to fire damage, as the Dremora inside the Star mainly use fire attacks (my character is a Dunmer, so her natural resistance to fire was a big help as well).

All you need is a flame atronach. I've done that quest as low as level 10 with a weak mage character. One flamer can take the three dremoras and another for the mage.

Yeah, that was a tough fight. I (Nord pure Magic user at level 23 or so) ended up going out and buying fire resistance and healing potions.

Get a banish daedra spell and a flame atronach spell. Slow Time Dragonshout works wonders too.

I know I may sound like a noob but where is the Shrine of Azura? I want to do the quest for her Star but in all my travels have never been able to find her shrine.

It's south of winterhold in the mountains. Go towards Saarthal and look a little left, there's also a dragon wall nearby.

You were level 10, that doesn't really count. I went in there at level 25 with 2 flame atronachs and got my ass handed to me multiple times, even with Highborn activated.

Well, it is easier at level 10 but it works up to about level 20 pretty well ( I've done it at level 16 too). I would assume you want to get it before then.

I did it around 25. It's odd because he seems to be actually vulnerable to Frost Damage, so I spammed Frost Breath and a Staff of the Blizzard. Another thing to note is that during the conversation and you pick your last dialogue option, you can exit the chat as soon as he replies and doesn't move until he finishes (or is attacked), so you can get in a few cheap shots while he is speaking.

That was a really tough fight. I was at Level 20 and had the Sanguine Rose. I conjured a lot and I believe what finally turned the tide in my favor was using my Scrolls. I don't recall which ones but I hope you have some good ones. After conjuring, I hid a lot to avoid damage and then just kept conjuring until the enemy's health was worn down.

Sanguine rose and Firebolt staff work wonders.
Wear any Fire Resist items you have and gulp down a Resist Fire pot.
Dont forget to collect the Daedra Hearts before you get pulled back out of the star.

May the devines watch over your battles.

This can be avoided by letting Nelacar fix it. It then becomes the Black Star and will only hold human souls, which are always Grand.

Also note that you don't have to kill the Dremoras ... if you can run around like crazy and kill off the mage you'll be fine even if everyone else is alive. IIRC that's exactly how I did it the first time :)

the star is the first thing i do with all toons as it helps lvl enchanting so i get the star prob lvl 5-8ish. i agree a few necro's can be hard at any level but play to the strategy's of the person you built, I as a stealth player made sure to get the most out of my sneak attacks and poisons, with those two i had no trouble downing even the hardest in the dungeon. illusion is your best bet imo for diffacult foes.

They do. They're equal to Grand for Enchanting and recharging.

I fought with bow and arrow. Learn to move from side to side and use the crystals for cover. Then wait for them to throw a firebolt, dodge, stop and fire. Repeat.
If you can get the shield, "Spellbreaker" (From the Peryite quest) then melee is feasible.

Then what is the difference between a Grand Soul Gem and a Black Soul Gem? Arrgh, I'm confused by my noobiness :(

I used Alchemy as it's my most powerful tool.

I moved back and forth shooting arrows are the dremora until they fell. Make sure you dodge their fireballs. After that I used an invisibility potion to sneak up and get that sixy x60.

For enchanting or weapon-recharging purposes, there is no difference. The only practical difference between the two is that a Grand Soul Gem can only hold the soul of a non-human, and a Black Soul Gem can only hold the soul of a human.

Edit: "Human" being a generic term for "any race the player's character can be" actually. Elves, Orcs, Khajiits and Argonians also have black souls.
