save riverwood!?

Post » Sat Jun 02, 2012 1:33 pm

has anyone been able to do it? everytime the damn dragons attack i have to save and reload and reload over and over just trying to kill the damn thing before it gets any of the townsfolk, like alvor the blacksmith he's important cause he's a fence/merchant. but now this damn ancient dragon is just tooooo strong for me to get it with my bow before it takes anyone out. if it landed on the ground that would be a different story. even changing the difficulty to the easiest setting it still takes like 8-10 daedric arrows, from a daedric legendary bow, with a 40% better archery ring, 40% better archery circlet, and 25% better archery bracers! i cant win and its pissing me off! has anyone been able to do this??

ugh you just have to accept the fact the dragons are going to kill people. I'm level 71 and dragons have killed off 2 smithers from small villages and one alchemist and a butt load of other people including quest related characters. Unless a dragon kills off a merchant you visit regularly I would say just let it be. You can't save everyone, especially in late game when almost every dragon is an ancient dragon, you're just gonna give yourself a headache.

Mostly, I have lost some from time to time, but thats going to happen. You just have to get in and hit it hard, I find the bows arn't the best option for high level dragons.
I want to know what happened to the "kill of the shop keep and his family/replacement takes his place" bit that they talked up before game launch.

I find if they land they kill citizens faster, but use Dragonrend.

Just spitballin' ideas here.

- Cast fear/hysteria on the townsfolk so they'll flee harm
- Use a heal spell to try and save townsfolk
- Use the shout that forces dragons to land
- Use the console to cheat through it by either killing the dragon or resurrecting NPCs
- Keep reloading
- Accept that NPCs will die and switch to another fence

Maybe the dragons name is Trogdor which would explain its behavior.

i usually do that when Alvor dies.Serillious.He says that he is the "best smith in skyrim" while he can't even afford to kill a Frost Dragon.

I shouldn't have to waste my time with all that while fighting the dragon. Maybe they should have programed the AI a little better and had the idiot NPCs run back into buildings. Not hide like morons behind trees and logs and expect not to get killed.....

The funny part is after the dragon is dead. All the townsfolk and guards all run over and look at it, like its a frikkin modern day RL car accident...lol

i think it is kinda funny actually. In my game when this happened it was injured into landing near the Mill on that little island where Faendal always chops wood. I shot it with an arrow and Faendal went sprinting into the river screaming at me "SLAY IT! SLAY THE DRAGON!" then the dragon grabbed him, shook him around a bit and then threw him in the river where he proceeded to float away down river. That was the last I saw of Faendal until his cold, bloated body washed up near the bridge that crosses the river on the road to Whiterun. It's too bad I didn't follow his body down the river so I could have seen it go over the falls lol!

but ya, sorry to hear you couldn't save your people, my advice is to use Dragonrend on it and then smoke it when it lands, if it starts to blow fire or frost at someone other than you or a guard use Foos Ro Dah on it and it will stun it out of the attack. Careful though because sometimes it will resume the fire/frost blowing and you can't shout again for a bit. Good luck buddy!

Unleash flame thralls or ranged undead thralls.

Should help a bit.

Perk up in archery, alot.

I've always ran outside the gate toward Whiterun and the dragon follows. A few guards will usually come help, but the townspeople keep their distance.

ya i tried luring it away, but it just circled the town over and over and over (i hoped it might just give up and fly away, like the ones in the wild do sometimes if you dont attack them) but during the fight it wouldnt go any farther away from the town than landing on the entrance arch.

thanks for all the great advice yall, i think rainbow Daedroth was right tho and i need to perk up archery, for when this happens again I can save everyone the 1st go round. and it will be useful for all around gameplay anyways. i mean I do favor the bow, atleast according to Skyrim's guards that took arrows to the knee haha.

Maybe the townspeople are too delicious?

Never played the game. I know about Trogdor from the Strong Bad Email "Dragon". Which is much older than any of the games.
