It's tough RPing when you don't know the lore.

Hate the Thalmor, hate the Empire, proud of Hammerfell, love ships and the sea, skillfull with one handed blades, and generally a good guy.

That's the current average Redguard.

http://uesp.net/wiki/Lore:Redguard They're very martial. In their homeland of Yokuda, which is known for having the best warriors in the world, all able-bodied Redguards have combat training. Many of them enjoy danger; even traditional Redguard hobbies tend to include dangerous things like snake charming. They also have a Nord-like prejudice against magic.

Thanks, that's a good start. Do you think they would side with the empire or Ulfric?

From Elder Scrolls One through Four, takes place during the 65 years of Uriel Septim VII's rule. Septim and his Imperial empire played a key part in the lore as they ruled over all of Tamriel (the continent Skyrim is in) as well as every emperor that came before Septim, going back thousands of years. Skyrim jumps ahead 200 years, and since then alot has changed. The Thalmor, which is a contingency of dictatorial conquering high elves, nearly destroyed the empire and almost ended it's 2000 year old rule, while taking over half of the continent in the process. Needless to say, even though I'm a high elf player, I think the Thalmor are [censored]s. They make the Imperials look like Baby Jesus.

My own Redguard is a spellsword, heavy armor, one hand weapon, destruction and alteration magic. She's mostly there as a mercenary since there is that whole Civil War thing going on in Skyrim at the moment. When I get to the point, I plan to side with the Stormcloaks not out of any particular loyalty to their cause... but because they hate the Imperials and the Thalmor, as does she. After all, the Imperials tried to execute her without even a trial or a chance to defend herself when she crossed into Skyrim.

My Breton is a pure mage concept and came to Skyrim to visit the College of Magic in Winterhold. She has no concern about politics.

I have been getting a lot of lore information from reading offline copies of the in game books.. There is a lot of wonderful stories there. But for the most part, it seems everyone has at different times fought alongside and with all of the other races. Imperials have had the longest running Empire so far, having absorbed much of the continent under their rule, but they are at a low ebb right now after the Aldmeri war.

You could RP as a character who doesn't know much about skyrim or its history. Then you would be learning what happens when out adventuring, through books and speech.

That's probably a neutral call...

To support the Stormcloaks: He could either sympathize with the plight of the Stormcloaks in the call for a Free, Nordic Skyrim, who believes that Skyrim is for the Nords as much as Hammerfell is for the Redguards (With full intention of leaving once this mess is over) Or, he could fight the Empire out of spite for them "selling out" Hammerfell to part of the Dominion. Or fight the Empire because he's afraid of a United Empire trying to re-take Hammerfell.

To support the Empire: He could be a hypocrite, supporting "Hammerfell is for the Redguards", but not appreciating the "Free, Nordic Skyrim" idea because he's not a Nord and is living in Skyrim (Not so fun to be on the recieving end of racism)... Or, he could believe that, by strengthening and re-uniting Skyrim under the Empire, he can strengthen the Empire enough to fight back against the Thalmor, and "reforge" it into a military geopolitical entity that Hammerfell would be honored to serve under, as Respected Citizens and valuable allies (A relationship similar to Texas and the U.S.A.) instead of Subjected Servants (Like East Germany/Ukraine to the Soviet Union).
