Hot to get Speech up without exploiting glitches or console

Post » Sat Jun 02, 2012 10:01 am

Hey I want to make a thread too!

Okay, so if you don't want to use exploits like that guy in Riften and if you don't want to use console commands and if you don't want to spend a crapload of money on Trainers that you must seek out, but a fair way to grind up speech then here's my way of gettign Speech up.

READ:
If you have a better way to get Speech up without using exploits or console commands then feel free to state them so that I can update the OP with those methods as well.
If you already know how to get Speech up then don't come here and whine about the thread, cause some people don't know how to get Speech up. (I for example was flabbergasted at how I was suppose to get Speech up on my previous character that I put in 90 hours on.)

Gabriel77dan's Method:

Anyway, first up go to http://elderscrolls.wikia.com/wiki/Revyn_Sadri and have him train you somewhat good skill level, say 50 so you can get the perk Persuasion.
After this, go to any hold with many guards and pickpocket something and get caught, then use Persuasion to ask the guard to look the other way.
If you succeed; go talk to every guard in the city and do it over and over again to slowly raise Speech.
[WARNING] Do not talk to the same guard twice, cause you cannot persuade him or her two times, you could try Intimidation though.
[NOTE] I have not yet tested to see if a character 'right off the bat' with a really low skill can do this so that's why I suggest going to Revyn and training your skill a bit.

Old Method:
Pick up everything you can find (misc items) and sell them one at a time to merchants.

Feel free to add your own methods of how to get this skill up without using exploits or cheats.

And there is still the old fashion way from previous versions.... Sell every item 1 at a time, and buy every item 1 at a time.

I'm guessing that is the only true no loop or "abusive" way of doing it...

I thought you'd just pick up and sell all the misc crap you find everywhere in dungeons and on bodies.

I always thought that speech skill ups should be a function of the cost, not the number of transactions. 1 arrow at 1G should give you the same skill as 50 arrows for 50G

Nah this is actually faster from what I experienced.
I don't feel like carrying around every single misc item I can find and constantly get overencumbered if there is a different option to take.
Sure, if you feel like going back to the city every single time you clear a dungeon then I guess the other way works as well.
But this way I don't have to worry about becoming overencumbered.

So I dunno, selling everything you find might be faster.
But this way you don't have to make a stop at town after every dungeon you clear out and you don't need to worry about becoming overencumbered as easily.

After going a run through every Whiterun guard I got like 4 increase at lower skill level though.
And at high, like 90+ I got +2 skill by Persuading every guard in Whiterun.
With a large stamina pool and rapidly clicking the dialogue option it's a pretty fast process.

TGM removes becoming overencumbered?

Still, I said ways to increase Speech without exploits or console commands.
No TGM. :stare:

Hello again Mr./Ms. Fish

I usually make a trip around all the town gates when at lower Speech levels. Almost all of the bigger city gates require some sort of speec check, which gives me a couple of reasons. After that I use the trainer when I am at the lower levels and do not have that much loot to sell. At higher levels I use the standard "let's clutter the store with junk" technique :P

Well I've got speech up to the 80's just doing it my way (selling everything) plus I made over 300K so far too :P I was pretty much forced to pick the investing and other merchent boosting perks so they had enough money to buy up the stuff I was selling. Especially after I decided to make my Archmage character a Artificer and manufactured minor magical gear and weapons armor to make money when I needed some (buy up all the houses).

Wish there was an easier way though, both ways are very grindtastic, but it'd be nice to get Speech up without using Trainers or grind misc crap and guards.

Hmm. Hey Bethesda... How about giving us a lot more Speech options in the DLC's?
That could perhaps balance it out so that we won't have to grind "as much".

but that would mean they have to actually write branching/multiple speech options. Just look how many of those are in there core game....Sorry to say speech is pretty worthless now, with only haggling and a very few options to do stuff.

Creating a potion using the restoration exploit that costs around a million septims and selling it will instantly max out your speech skill.

It involves having a set of fortify alchemy items equipped; creating a fortify restoration potion, drinking it, re equip alchemy gear; repeat until the magnitude of your potions sky rockets into the billions; then you can break every mechanic and skill in the game using those potions.

Sorta like the Intelligence exploit in Morrowind.

..And then people still complain that the game isn't enough like Morrowind :P

There is a Dark elf Speech tutor somewhere in Winterhelm. Go there, pay him for training then sneak behing him and pickpocket your gold back. That's 5 free speech levels. When you level up, return to him to get 5 more levels the same way.
Repeat until you run out of patience or you are too high level to be trained by him. In that cae jut search for a better trainer.

Beats having to sell 56 iron daggers one by one...

Well you get the experience from the amount the item is worth; however, selling a stack only counts as 1 item. Value of the transaction would be a lot easier.

I don't think selling all the junk would work, since it has to be worth something to gain experience..

True, however the fortify intelligence potions in Morrowind was part of the gameplay mechanism and known before the game was released.
Comparable with the enchanting + alchemy effect in Skyrim but 1000 time more powerful.

The restoration exploit is an bug.

Joining the thieves guild also gives you the 'Bribe' option, and it increases speech too. When I was a reckless thief and stole a little to enthousiastic, i got caught several times. I always bribed the guards, and inadvertently, i found myself at 35 speech. That had to be 1 skill-up per bribe. Also, the 'Ice Form' glitch can let you train anything without cost, as long as you have money for 1 skill up.

Value of the transaction does count, although you don't really notice it unless you're selling very valuable stuff. Anything worth less than about 100 gold will not move the Speech meter very much, however items worth 1000 or more jump it up fairly rapidly. The best way to get a steady supply of the latter type of items is to become a blacksmith and make improved Heavy armors, although you'll need a lot of ingots to do so. Fortunately, the blacksmith merchants sell them, so you can use part of your items to buy supplies to make more, while pocketing a tidy profit and running your Speech skill up fairly rapidly.
