Freeing Stormcloak prisoners

Post » Sat Jun 02, 2012 3:21 pm

I've had the "Imperials escorting Stormcloak prisoner" random encounter 4 times now. In every case I elect to "Free Prisoner and Share Items", but for some reason the prisoner NEVER equips. So far I've tried all heavy armor and a two handed weapon, all light armor and a one handed weapon, and an actual Stormcloak uniform. But they stubbornly cling to their tattered rags and bare fists.

Does this sound buggy to anyone else?

Yes it sounds. I shared items with prisoner once and because of this I decided after that only to free them.

I think I've shared items with prisoners a couple times and each time they equipped at least the weapon.

I think the prisoners are bugged-badly in my game.

*When setting the prisoner free, they still have their hands bound.

*I give items to them and they do not equip any of the items.

*Even if your out in the middle of no where and you go to town you are still fined for the crime.

I would skip recusing them, but I hate the Empire and the Thalmor even more.

You do? I can't remember that happening to me at all.

It's happened to me before outside of Falkreath with the Thalmor. I saved the dude, and he apparently wanted to report me to the guards for killing his jailors. Since I was on my assassin, he joined them in death.

That's so idiotic...

I've done it a few times.
At first the Imperials killed them before I could kill the imperials.
after that, they would just run away, no thanks, nothing!
This time thru, I'm going to become and imperial.

I tried giving him a two hander and he didn't equip it. Perhaps the prisoner prefers daggers or something?

I attacked some Thalmor without freeing their prisoner first, and the idiot immediately tried to kill me...
Plus it said "last witness killed, 2000 bounty removed from Whiterun."
When I got to Whiterun the guards immediately attacked me!

I've found freeing prisoners to generally be a waste of time. They usually get killed pretty quickly by their captors, and if you attack the captors without provoking them first, prisoners become witnesses to "your crime", and will even sometimes attack you. Ungrateful gits.

See the prisoners are wanted for crimes and use turning you in as part of their plea bargain. So since they're named "prisoner" and not Jorg or Sven or Oli, they can die, too. No witnesses. Three Thalmor dead + collateral damage. Oh well. If the distance is long chances are they won't make it anyway. Imagine fighting a Skeever with your hands tied.

I have no problem with collateral damage when it comes to dealing with the Thalmor - not my problem if the idiot prisoner doesn't know to get the hell out of there when the fight starts. :P

I haven't seen them equip a weapon I give them, either. They did try to fight, though, and sometimes end up dead if you don't kill the imperials quickly.

I still always free them. Damned faithless imperials.

I get the Thalmor to attack me (since the first time I attacked without "provocation" I wound up with a 40g bounty in Solitude....) The prisoners always run out of the way, but then when I try to "free and give equipment" they just run away.... *shrug*
