The Psijic Order used the powerful but naive dragonborn to obtain the Eye of Magnus

I had fun completing the college of winterhold quests but I couldn't help but feel used after the grand Psijic Order told me that they would be taking the Eye of Magnus because my world was not ready for it. Really? The only reason the Eye of Magnus caused problems was because Ancano had no idea what he was doing with it. I would've preferred to keep the Eye and study it with my colleagues to learn how to use and control it's power.

What do you people think?

The Psijic monks said very flattering things to the dragonborn, boosting his ego at every encounter, and privately laughing at how easy it was to manipulate him.

Yeah, it was a bit dissapointing. Would have been cooler if the actual Mages questline would just have started there.

Also I still find it ridiculous, that it's so easy to become Archmage.
I just don't feel my character a] deserves that title and b] would have the time and knowledge to manage the college.

I believe this myself, and it potentially leads to a DLC imo. It seems in many TES games the character is a pawn given the illusion of it being destiny or fate. I feel used in each game but I have tons of fun doing it lol

Didn't they take it, because it was creating abnormalities? As you said Dragonborn is naive. How do you intend on stabilising it?

I have never really trusted the Psijics. Don't ever trust anyone who is so paranoid they installed a cloaking device on their island. >_>

He can warp you into an alternate dimension without your consent or knowledge. Safe to say that they can do anything they want with you, no matter how naive you are or not. What are you going to do to stop them? Wishing you could doesn't change anything.

True and the Thalamor there obviously had intentions (and who can trust those guys). However, we really don't know what it was for either and did not get the chance to, nor do you really know what the intentions the psijic have (isnt the one psijic himself a high elf?)

I think they were set up by Aldmer, the ancesters of Altmer. I suppose, I can only say that they are probably more like the Greybeards rather than the Stormcloaks.

Ancano was messing around with it and didn't know how to operate it safely. Thats why those things resembling ice wraiths appeared. Thats my best guess but I do feel the Psijics are good people even if they are selfish. They dislike the Thalmor as well

I enjoy this as an alternate reading. Quaranus even went out of his way to show up to the college and say mysterious stuff to you that only served to make Ancano paranoid. The whole thing is just a carefully orchestrated plot to goad Ancano into trying something stupid, to set you up with the Staff of Magnus before things get out of hand, and ultimately to make sure nobody complained when they came to take it away, as if they were doing the College a favor by robbing them. Masterfully done.

It's kind of like how in Star Wars, Darth Vader really just wanted to rule the galaxy with his son, but Yoda and Obi Wan lied and manipulated Luke to get him to play out their elaborate revenge plot. Search your heart: You know it to be true.

What do I think? I think this this questline makes Oblivion's MG questline look like a work of genius. I'm supposed to believe that a powerful order no one really knows much about, much less trusts, decides you're the chosen one to save the world from uncertain disaster only to have you turn over a powerful artifact to their benevolent guardianship, never mind you couldn't stop them anyway? I thought DA2's deus ex machina was bad - but this really takes the cake.

Not so sure it has a cloaking device per-say, but rather are able to move through space and time from what I've read. Historically the Psiijic's seem like a cross between the Jedi and Dr Who; time manipulating problem solvers who use an unusual subset of mysticism magic and help guide people towards the greater good. Overall it's one faction I'd REALLY like to join, you'd get to see TES from it's strangest angles

Jedi Dr Who... man, watch out Nazi Sith Daleks you're done for now.

They probably created Elder Scrolls as well.

Actually, one of my favorite encounters the whole game is from that questline. After you smoke that ghosty lightning throwing Morokel jerk and take the Staff of Magnus, the Thalmor dude shows up and tries to kill you. I pretty much just walked through him with the staff held out. Loved it.

I really think that this is only the beginning of the storyline involving the Eye and the Psijic order. I think they might actually be necessary for the destruction of the Thalmor, for one, considering that the two factions seem to dislike each other. The order disappeared for a reason, and that reason has yet to be seen. We just played a small part in it and will find out the true conclusion later. We aren't the "chosen one," we're a useful mortal that they used to achieve something in the future, and we will find out what it was. Personally, I like that the story isn't concluded in one questline, it makes me look forward to the future.

That would definitely be more interesting than this petty civil war crap.

Except, it would probably only fit the mage style of play. Unless they get rid of certain sticky situations that requires magic to get beyond.

Ugh. You are likely all too right. *sigh* I don't ever play mages.... my toons are all hack n slash valkyries.... Well, they all use a bit of destro offhand (at least until the ones that play the MQ get shouts, then THEY dual wield).

Ah well.... not much point in speculating, ain't?
