What do you think of the 9th dragon priest mask?

Post » Sat Jun 02, 2012 8:20 pm

Has a chance to heal you and all nearby allies.
Has a chance to knock back all hostiles hurting them.
Has a rare chance to summon a dragon priest to fight for you.

I find it more useful than all the other masks. When you're about to die it might just save you, and that dragon priest summon is even better than a dremora lord.

I think the same thing about it as I do all the rest of them: it's damned ugly, and I won't wear it. Since I don't really have any issues with killing stuff, it - like the rest of them - lives in a chest in one of my houses.

Now if a modder comes up with a "make masks invisible when worn" mod, that will likely change.

Why don't you put it on and see what it does?

If it works well, I don't care if it's ugly/clashes with armor. It's a nice boost, one that could be very helpful if Lydia happens to be swatted into the side of a mountain.

I prefer stat or skill boosting masks. You know you're getting that boost 100% of the time and not just when Nocturnal feels like it. ;)

I never use the Dragon Priest masks. Some of them have nice bonuses, but they look god-ugly, and they're Heavy Armor. A mage wouldn't wear them because they're so heavy and it would negate the Mage Armor perk you get from wearing no armor. If you wear Light Armor, it negates some of your Light Armor perk bonuses, and if you normally wear Heavy Armor, then you probably don't use magic that often and there's plenty of other things that offer better protection and can be enchanted.

They were actually quite disappointing. The hidden quest to find the 9th mask, which was great in theory, is so not worth the trouble. I think it actually would've been better if they were Light Armor, and you had to give them all up for a reward. The reward would be better as a power to summon a Dragon Priest (like the Spectral Assassin) and gives a bunch of temporary boosts to your magic-related abilities... not a summon spell only available while wearing a 9th Heavy Armor mask that only has a small chance of saving you from death (something that should never be relied upon).

Yep, pretty disappointing like a lot of other stuff in this game... A shame really. I thought skyrim would be awesome with balanced magic and artifacts and all that.. but NOOOOO..

Ah, 3 of 9 are Light Armor (not counting the otherwise-useless wooden mask). Point remains that they aren't very useful, though, are unnecessarily heavy, and fugly.

Seems like the fire cloak and full healing spell effects only activate when you reach or get below 10hp. Lol.... I'm still trying to mod this mask to activate more often and earlier on than that 10hp.

Practically useless. You're dead before the mask activates.

10 Health is like pennies by the time you manage to get those masks together.

Also...you can be instantly killed by an execution move far before you ever get close to 10 HP.

I've noticed regardless of your level and armor, chances are you'll be dead. Only time I managed to survive until the mask activates to fully heal me is when I'm nearing 10hp and keep blocking. I still get damaged while blocking and if I'm not lucky I see the fire cloak and healing spell effects but I'm already dead before reaping the benefit. Haven't been able to summon the dragon priest yet. Don't like how rare it is...

Only svcks when you don't summon the dragon priest. I finally summoned him! Didn't time the duration but I think the summon lasted approx 30 seconds. He turned all hostiles to ash piles. He casted ward spells, lightning spells, seems to know a resurrect the dead spell, and is a good tank. Not a good sign until there's a mod to clean up permanent ash piles or it's save game bloat.

I've been using it for a very long time and it's never failed to use all of its effects whenever I got into health trouble. Love it!

I was expecting to be pulverized by a boss... not even, on that note I just left the mask where I found it, but after reading through this thread I think I may just go back and get it
