Unusual GemsStones of Barenziah Quest BROKEN

Post » Sat Jun 02, 2012 3:29 pm

well apparently b/c i collected all 24/24 stones before talking to Vex in the Thieves Guild and discovering that they are Stones of Barenziah I cannot complete this quest. I can get all the way to her telling me about them and that they are worthless without the whole set, and then the message pops up saying collect stones of barenziah 24/24 but then does not register completed and will not let me progress further no matter what I tried. It even lets me store/drop asking how many i want and giving me the slider option to choose how many, but then when i press store/drop it says cannot drop quest items, which is also strange. anyone else have this happen? or know a fix? i guess i will have to roll-back saves damnit.

they should have made quest items weigh 0 like in oblivion as glitches with these items getting stuck in your inventory were expected. and while its not realistic, there are many things in the game that arent realistic, like carrying 10 battleaxes, 100 bottles of beer and potions, 100,000 gold coins, 3 different armor sets and 1,000 arrows all at the same time.

Quest items DO weigh nothing in Skyrim. Drop everything but the quest items in your inventory to check it.... The weight notation is wrong on quest items.

they should have made quest-essential items not able to be picked up unless on that quest currently, if not just remove the item completely and not have it show up in it's designated location unless on that quest. that would be great, as it would have prevented all this [censored] in my inventory. granted it's not taking up weight since quest items weights dont actually count, even if its like 20 weight like the Elder Scroll or the Black Briar Mead Keg, but its still annoying having that [censored] there that i cant do anything with. Also would have prevented all these broken quests that tell you to go find something you already have and then wont let you re-find it because it's not there, but wont let you turn it in either because it hasnt registered that you actually found it! i assumed it would be like the begining of the game with the Dragonstone, like if you do the Golden Claw Quest first before going to the Jarl and doing the Quest for Farengar Secret-Fire to get the stone, he will say go find the Dragonstone and the quest starts. then immediately completes and says Give Farengar the DragonStone and you have the speech option "Oh. You mean this DragonStone?" and he responds accordingly like Oh wow you already hav it, your a smart fella! Thats how I assumed the rest of these item-fetch quests were programmed but apparently not. Too much to expect.

ya i knew that already. this thread was about the quest not letting me progress further even though i have all the required items, not about quest items taking up weight but can't drop them. thanks for your input though.

If you collect all 24 stones before getting them valued, she wont progress the quest. I thought i was being clever collecting them all before getting them valued so that they would stack nicely in my inventory. Derp! Had to progress the quest with console commands. If youre trying to avoid the individual stacking issue, get them valued after the 23rd one. :ermm:

Yes, the game has alot of problems if you find or complete a quest objective before they are given. Most noteably the bard quests.

Only a few quests such as the MQ actually allows you to pre-acquire the necessary macguffins.

this is exactly what i had to do, roll back to this point and then before getting the 24th from the Arch-Mage's quarters go join the Guild, get the 23 i have appraised and get the actual quest "No Stone Unturned" started and to the -Collect the Stones of Barenziah (23/24) point. Then when i got the last one frome the college, it completed and gave me the quest -Talk to Vex. Which is the next step that I was not getting before. I just wish someone had posted it somewhere or had seen it before I did the same thing you did, thinking i would get them first then kill 2 birds with 1 stone when joining the guild but nope. Bethesda has spoken! I am just glad I learned to keep a LIBRARY of saves on my laptop in case I ever get a bug or screw something up or just want to go back to a certain point. Thankfully I did and it really helped me in this situation, only lost like 60,000 gold and some alchemy matts but those aint [censored]. Thanks again yall for your help!

Just shows how important those regular saves are, huh. Even when youre trying to avoid an issue, it can bite ya.

My saves are over twice the size of the game itself ... including high texture mods.

All my McMuffins aren't stacking. I almost wish I didn't start picking them up, but it's addicting! like Pokemon!
