Dragon plate needs a fix.

Post » Sat Jun 02, 2012 2:40 pm

Yes, i know the materials for making dragon armors are much much easier to acquire
then then the materials for the Daedric Armor. But according to many lore's, dragon-scales
are the hardest materials known to man in the fantasy world.

However, when comparing a Dragon Plate with a Daedric plate, the later is far superior
in terms of protection.

Why did the Devs seem fit to make armors made out of Dragon scales so inferior
to others materials?. Even a good Orc or Legendary Steel plate is just as good.

And considering that the materials for Dragon Armors weights a ton, shouldn't the
armor be especially heavy as well, and only a viable option for a higher lvl char with
a good amount of Stamina?.

It just seems logical to me that a Legendary Dragon Plate has the best defense
but also the highest weight.

What are you talking about? Dunno about Daedric but Dragon Plate is better than any other type of armor, when improved at the same level of skill. Yes, Legendary Orcish is gonna be better than unimproved Dragon Plate; but Dragon Plate can be improved, too.

Actually Dragon Scale is the best light armor in the game but Daedric is the best Heavy Armor... Which makes sense when you consider that Daedric is made from Daedra Hearts which are from creatures of Oblivion...

I've wondered the same thing about the armor's weight though... How do the 10 pounds of materials required to make a Daedric Cuirass translate into 50 pounds of armor... All heavy armor is like that it takes far less weight in materials to make a far heavier armor...

Light on the other hand is about right aside from of course Dragon Scale which takes about 50+ pounds of Dragon Scales to make a suit of 12 pound armor...

There is also a perk in Heavy Armor and one in Light Armor that reduces the weight of worn armor of that type to zero once you take it so as far as having higher stamina for it, it's not really necessary... And the dragon armor types are supposed to be high level anyway... You are able to make them before 48 if you work on Smithing hard enough but doing that you can have any armor type early if you look hard enough for the materials... I've got a level 18 battle mage using Daedric just because I looked for the materials myself...

Actually Dragon plate comes out slightly weaker than Daedric fresh out of the forge... And improved to the same level it's still less powerful than Daedric... Dragon Scale on the other hand is Stronger than Glass which is the next step down in Light Armor...

Well, with the right heavy armor perks and high enough smithing, you are able to reach the armor cap in any heavy armor...so go with the one that you think looks the best!

As for your lore-based objections...yes, I agree with you.

Thats why Daedric Weighs more. Also provided that you have enough money, ingredients for the armour is not that hard to get once you are above level 20. Most alchemist will have one, and Enthir from C.O.W has 2 in his inventory all the time.

Yeah, I was extremely disappointed when I finally reached 100 smiting. I was hoarding dragon scales/bones all game and it was almost a slap in the face when I made my fully upgraded set to find it was weaker than Daedric. Almost didnt feel like playing anymore after that.

Like I said, I wasn't sure about Daedric. It's difficult to collect all the items needed for a full set. But of the others, Dragon Plate is definitely the best heavy armor.

For good or bad, there is really no best armor in the game. Between the DR caps and what you really need to have effective protection, any material can protect you in this game, with the right skills or perks in the mix.

It all comes down to what your character would wear, that is the best armor in the game. That could be Fur, or it could be Iron (OK, Iron svcks, Steel Plate) or any other material. Me, I am sporting Legendary Glass on my character and he is just fine with protection.

I don't think that Dragon Bone Plate should be tweaked by making it stronger that Daedric ... I think there should be other non-magical buffs that make it something to look at. Perhaps DB Plate should offer some elemental damage reductions or MR or reduce recharge time for shouts or more powerful shouts or some other buff that makes it the best.

After all it's relatively easy to hit the max armor value with any decent Heavy Armor / Smithing / Heavy Armor Skill. Having little buffs like this could make it THE best heavy armor in the game hands down.

Another thing to consider is that dragon smithing grants both light and heavy armor, and the advanced armor smithing perk is on the light side. Which also contains heavy armor. The real advantage to dragon smithing is if you use a different type of armor then your favorite follower.

Perhaps the solution would be to make Daedric armor much more difficult to craft? Not skill wise, but maybe double the ebony requirements and make the hearts much more rare. That way, while not the "best" dragon plate is a much cheaper, lighter, almost as good alternative then wrangling up the ebony/hearts for daedric.
