Found a word, killed a dragon, cant use shout.

Post » Sat Jun 02, 2012 7:00 pm

So I found the first word for the become ethereal shout. I went with Delphine and killed the dragon at Kynesreach or whatever its called. I absrobed its soul, but its still telling me I need a soul to use the shout. Does this dragon not count, or am I missing something?

You have to go to High Hrothgar first.

Do you have to do this for each word? Cause I started the training and have learned Ro and Uld and can use both of them.

Oh, hmm. No, if you've done that then you should just be able to open Magic/Shouts, and enable the use of the soul to learn it.

Well, I'm a newb. I competely missed that you had to spend a soul manually to unlock it. I guess I just figured it was automatic, since the other ones were "given" to you. I just started on Friday, so I'm still learning the ropes. I just loaded it up and "unlocked" the shout and it works. Thanks.

Oh gosh.... sorry, seems like everyone's run into that already, and the last couple of times it's come up the poster has gotten a bit annoyed with those giving that bit of advice/info. Should have been more specific, I do apologize. Have fun, and please, don't hesitate to ask when you need help!

My apologies if you intrepreted that wrong. If anything, I'm annoyed at myself for missing something that was right there. I didnt even see the press r to unlock option for it.

It is just a very misleading message saying you don't have a soul to unlock the shout.

It should say something like you must spend a soul first to unlock the shout

Bethesda really should put how to activate a shout in big bold letters on every screen that shows an unactivated one. As is, it's very easy to miss.

Well don't feel bad about it, I used only WW Sprint and Unrelenting Force till level 30 because:

I thought that dragon souls make your shouts stronger when you have more of them (I had about 22) and that for a shout to be unlocked you need to learn all 3 words first... which makes sense in some way

But then I noticed the Unlock feat and thought I'd unlock a few more of them even if they were incomplete.

I don't use shouts very often anyways... but I did find the Throw Voice shout usefull besides the other 2
