Yes, it's safe. Feel free to store whatever you like in there.

So they're Buzz Lightyear containers. Except that I've yet to be able to store more than infinity in there, due to lack of stuff to even get to infinity.

tool tip says only guaranteed safe place is a room you OWN... I wouldn't trust it. you can clear that room out and stuff respawns, even in drawers... the risk is that it would respawn on top of whatever you had and what you had would be gone.

When you become the Archmage, Listener, Guild Master, etc. you do own the rooms that they give you. You own the Archmage's room. You own the Lsteners room in the Sanctuary.

They are perfectly safe.

Tool tip; do a little more research. When lead a Guild, you own those rooms. They are perfectly safe, and I know this from over three character, and never once have I lost even a single Septim in any container that I have stored any of my gear once I owned/lead those Guilds.

I don't know for sure. I only use my own house. But, I completed the Archmage quest pretty early and I put a few things into the chest next to the bed and i check on it periodically and the stuff I put in there is still there. So far, therefore, that seems to support the idea that it is safe.

The Archmage quarters are pretty nice as a house (if it IS indeed safe) but it takes a bit longer to get to it from the fast travel arrival point at the base of the path into the college. Not prohibitive though and a nice (slowly) respawning garden too. Not to mention the alchemy station and the enchanting station.

Bethesda should really make this clearer -- what IS and IS NOT safe. If they have said the guild leader quarters are safe I haven't seen it in the game. But it seems to be true for the Archmage, so far.

The Mage's Room you're assigned when you join is safe.

Not all the "Guild Head" rooms can be trusted, though. The Harbinger's Quarters in Jorrvaskr will reset. Lost 4 Glenmoril Witch heads in there, which was annoying.

It was safer than the house I bought later, though after I finished the quest I moved all my stuff from my room to the arch-mage's suite.

I have been storing many things in the room for many game hours. Note that the free ingredients (reagents) on the end table when you walk in respawn, yet all my gear is still there in the closets etc. This suggests that I've used it long enough to prove the containers are safe.

edit:
Let me qualify that by saying that I have never used the barrels in this. A later post says that barrels respawn.

I've had stuff in the wardrobe and end tables for 20 levels and through completion of the college quest line. I don't trust the barrels, though. They seem to respawn.

I can confirm they respawn. With my first character I lost about 160 tankards (I collect them) in one of the barrels when it respawned. I'm assuming that all the barrels do based on that. I don't use them anymore and stick to all the cabinets which I've used safely with that character for 20 some levels and on my second character for 30+ levels.

I too use the College room as my first base of operations for all characters now. What's not to like about it? They should advertise in Skyrim papers.

College Of Winterhold! For ONLY 30 septims you get 2 spells, multiple beds to sleep in. At least 5 storage containers. Free enchanted robes and hood, few sets of fine clothes and fine boots. Loads of free ingredients, wine, mead, food, soul gems and access to alchemy lab, enchanting table and a bunch of awesome trainers...

I think some people ask pointed questions here because reading stuff online will tell them more than they want to know - spoilers.

That's the main reason I ask questions here: it's not that I'm lazy it's that if I ask a specific question I get a specific answer. If I look at Wikia I may see more than I want. :P

I've been using the Arch-Mage Quarters, including all the barrels, for 30 levels (Xbox). Nothing has respawned. Nothing has been lost. Of course, the garden hasn't respawned either.

all treasure chests, cabinets are safe, even the ground, skyrim has nearly zero garbage collection and will keep almost everything in memory. but not barrels, corpses.

the arch mage quarters will indeed respawn assuming you dont visit it once every 2 days, however, your gear will not disappear even in that case.

I've read you need to avoid the barrels. But the other containers are safe.

I used the archmage's quarters, including barrels, for a couple dozen levels on Xbox and never lost anything. The garden respawned recently (finally) for the first time in at least a couple hundred hours of gameplay.

The barrels between Breezehome and the Smith in Whiterun have never respawned on me after 42 levels of game play. I go in and out of Whiterun constantly though. Seems you have to stay away from a cell for a very long time in game time to see if something is safe.

Same reason my gardens never seem to respawn.
