Smithing Perks? What?

Post » Sat Jun 02, 2012 9:26 am

Simple. I'm depressive. I'm using steel smithing and arcane smithing from lvl 1 to 40 (now)

And I am not sure If I go the heavy armor perk or the light armor perk.

I'm an assassin. Ancient DB Armor, for sure. No need of armor perks.

But there's a need of some well-crafted weapons.

What should I do, guys? Light armor perks and no weapons (seems useless but I wear light armor)
Or use heavy armor perks to create weapons (light armor only creates weapons at glass and elven ??) But never use armors?

You're really confusing me... Whats the problem with Elven and Glass weapons? they may deal slightly less damage then the heavy equivalents but they also attack faster which will round out to more DPS.

I don't understand. If you're wearing DB armor and don't smith your own, why would you complain that you can't smith armor?
You seem to prefer weapons on the heavy side (daedric, right?), so I say heavy. You can still smith Dragonscale if you go that way.

I went heavy armor smithing on my thief character so that she could craft the heavy weapons (for companions and through mods for crafting arrows for herself). The best light armors are the guild armors anyway, so unless you really like the elven or glass, there's no harm in it.

Sorry, guys. I need to go home. Talk from there:

In short terms: I want to know what's best for weapon smithing.

Except for the gloves that enhance backstab damage the best armors will be self-enchanted if you have the skill.

Light weapons attack faster which when combined with smithing and enchantments will mean more DPS then heavy weapons.

Depends on what you're looking for.Even a nice steel sword at high levels can have a tendency to trivialize the game especially if you end up with high enchantment. If you prefer backstabbing with a dagger , after a certain point it doesn't matter what you're using once you get certain perks. If you're going for a certain look in weapons then yeah you're gonna have to spend the points to upgrade them to the best possible grade , but that doesn't exclude you from upgrading them. So IMO it boils down to your playstyle , what you want out of the game etc.

since u said u was an assassin and alot of the combat flow goes off that first hit...id say heavy because of the the increased sneak damage and the backstab damage and if u use daedric vs glass daggers then u will see serious amount more dmg from the daedric than glass with the perk.

Light armor side--if ur goign for the sixy scale armor...thats about it
heavy Armor side---go all the way thru dragon that way u get the best DMG weapons AND u can get the Dragon Light armor as well.

Again im baseing this all off u being an assassin menaing that the first hit is one of the most important.

If you aren't going to use daggers, Steel should be more than adequate. Skyforge weapons are quite strong, and require only one perk for improved tempering.

Heavy side for the weapons. You can't go wrong with Daedric daggers, swords and bows if you're an assassin.

Alright. So, for now, Heavy perks are winning.

Btw, I am dual wielder. Speed for me means DPS but I already attack as fast as lighning. Glass daggers in offhand + glass swords in right hand. That's cool? Or better ebony/daedric?

I've done a Daedric dude before but I wanted to avoid using daedric smith since I find it's too strong and... ugly. xD

My advice is to buy no further perks than steel. Join the companions, get skyforged steel weapons from Eorlund Greymane, and improve them with steel ingots. If you're planning on using Daggers, install this mod to fix the improvement bugs for smithing:

http://www.skyrimnexus.com/downloads/file.php?id=1020

The damage delta between Daedric Weapons and Skyforged Steel is pretty small, if you're using smithing to improve your weapons. Instead, sink the perk points into your light armour tree to ensure you're at the damage resistance cap from your Ancient Shrouded Armour.

You can reach ridiculously high damage with any weapon, even a humble iron dagger if you synergize smithing through a enchanting as well as alchemy.

Neither. If you are level 40 then before long you will find all you need in weapons just from loot drops. Save the perks for something more useful to your assassin.

There is no easy answer. Bottom line is do you want Glass or Ebony as your final weapon material? Daedric stuff can be found and it is not worth the weight disadvantages so it should not be part of the decision. I am not saying don't use Daedric, just it is not reason enough alone to go Heavy over Light.

No matter which you choose your'e gypped. If you take light armor smithing, you'll be unable to improve and best utilize heavy weapons and legendary heavy weapons, of which the game has many.

If you don't believe this when invested in light armor smithing then improve an ebony weapon- you can get it to legendary with potions, but the damage output when equipped is nowhere near a light weapon also improved to legendary.

As a sneak character you're probably best servied by light armor smithing. I choose it. But how I miss Oblivion- where if you could swing it- it was yours.

If you go with the heavy side you can get both Daedric smithing (best weapons) and Dragon smithing (best light armor) so it's the best for both.
