So I went through the dialog with Faralda, I didn't have the level I needed to cast the fear spell. I left came back later at 140 Mage, now theres no dialog option other than saying to forget about it after I agree to take the test. I cast the spell behind her at her beside her at the chicken on the path, at people walking near her with no luck, any help would be appreciated.......

Do a dragon shout (but not whirlwind sprint). I hear that works.

if you want to use the (persuade) option and tell her you don't really need to cast magic, shout Fus PAST her... be very careful not to hit her or she's gonna fight back and she's a master destruction mage. it'll hurt a bit.

^ Not much to add to that. It really does hurt if you annoy her accidentally.
The emblem on the ground is where you're meant to show off your spelly ability, and shouting seems to impress the college enough that they let you in.
There's a thread around here by someone who became the arch-mage of the college and only used about 3 spells, it's quite interesting to read.

got it apparently I couldn't have a follower so I told him to wait inside the Inn after that I cast the spell at the floor behind her and I'm in. I did that before while my follower was present, it did not work....
