Quests keep repeating

Post » Sat Jun 02, 2012 12:29 pm

So after I had finished the main quest, a courier delivered Delphine's note to me, telling me to meet her in the Attic room at The Sleeping Giant Inn in Riverwood, I found this extremely odd, for one thing this note was part of a quest from the beginning of the game, for another, a courier was delivering this letter, after I had completed the quest, and all of the following quests, long ago; I soon forgot about it, but then I went to Solitude and when I talked to a guard I had the option to ask 'how do I join the Imperial Legion' when I had already won the war for the Legion. :S

These sorts of things keep happening, it's like certain parts of the game are stuck in a loop, another example is I just went to The Shrine of Talos in Markarth and guards were inside, stopped me and told me they were framing me for the recent murders. This has already happened, I have finished that particular Forsworn quest and the town even talks about my involvement in that particular quest.

This is a pretty serious bug, just one serious bug in a number of bugs I have encountered in my 100+ hours of play. (some of these bugs were game breaking and forced me to use console commands to get around them).

I really hope these issues are adressed by Bethesda and I really hope a moderator reads these posts. :/

I only read about half of the first sentence, but this REALLY needs to be in the Spoilers section. Please make note of the "DO NOT POST SPOILERS ON THIS BOARD!" thread stickied on the top of the page in the future.

Same. You have to be VERY careful if mentioning stuff to do with quests, disguise it or just don`t mention it.

Or post in the Spoiler section.

Hey man, I made careful note not to give anything serious away, the note that was delivered to me was not suppossed to come to me, it was a note the player receives very early on in the game, that's actually the problem here. ;D

Ah, I see. I just stopped reading for fear of spoiling the story, as I just got to the part where you need to obtain a piece of parchment for the Greybeards. I'll read it through and see if I can give some insight on the matter. :)

Hmm... it seems like you had a continuity bug in your game. Odd, I never heard of this happening in Skyrim, most likely because I haven't actually completed the story yet and looked for things of that nature. My only advice is to reload a save from before completion, if available. If there is no save from before that point, then I'm afraid that you may need to start a new character. :(

Yep, I am afraid of that :S I've developed a rather large attatchment with my character and would be very sad to have to let him go.

If you on PC you can just input the setqueststage commands or whatever they are using for skyrim. It might not have fully completed the quest when you finished.

Huh? The problem is that some of the quests are just looping not that I can't finish certain quests.

Although I haven't experienced any of the other quest loops you mention, this one has happened to me. Every time I go to Markarth the guards accuse me of murder whenever I talk to them, even though I've finished that whole quest. If I agree to go to jail (again), the conversation ends and they're like "wait... I know you." all over again. Hasn't interfered with my game too much though... so far. :ermm:

There might be some ingame function that if you dont complete a quest or ignore it for so long that it creates a note and a courier and sends them to you. Im just guessing here of course. Quests are set up in stages and it might be that the last stage, which is usually 100, isn't firing properly and the game might think you are just ignoring it or haven't completed. As I said I'm just guessing here of course.

You could always redo the quests? Im not sure if it would work or if it would bugger your game up but redoing the quests you have mentioned would most likely solve the problem and it would give you the opportunity to play through the quests a second time.

So many people in these forums never seem to actually read the post but are still happy to give advice, while I appreciate you trying to help, I have completed the quests, they are looping, can you understand this premise?

Sadly, I completed these quests about fifty hours before my oldest save aha. :S

Still could you try giving console commands to 1. Open the quest again to an earlier level (it will still be marked complete in the journal) and 2. Set the quest to finished again

It might solve the problem. If the game believes the quests to be open a close command could work.

I heard this is one of the bugs associated with the save file size.

The issue you're having in Markarth is a major bug. Go here for more info: http://www.uesp.net/wiki/Skyrim:No_One_Escapes_Cidhna_Mine
