Is 30x sneak attack damage overkill?

Post » Sat Jun 02, 2012 3:22 pm

I guess I'm wondering are these gloves necessary? Are there opponents that ultimately can't be killed with only 15x damage?

They kind of are. The issue is that almost all enemies have little to no armor rating to contest the raw damage.

Yea I'm currently playing another sneaky type of character and I didn't want to roll with the dark brotherhood armor again. I was thinking of making my own or going with something else. I'm also kind of particular about wearing matching sets of armor. Thanks for the feedback. I am playing on master and so far I haven't noticed that much of a difference yet. I'm only level 35 so we'll see.

I haven't started my Assassin-type yet, but I'm guessing that the 30x is not overkill since many enemies are in groups and you may not be able to Sneak Attack/Backstab all of them so if you can one-shot one that's one less you'll have to melee? Plus, I suspect you won't be able to SA/Backstab bosses. :P

Normal ones? No.

30x is for the extremists who want to one-shot dragons.

If you have a highly enchanted and fully upgraded dagger 15x damage is pretty much enough in most of the cases. Otherwise you may need to strike twice

Exactly, and having to strike twice risks the victim making a noise and that can lead to embarrassment. Better to forego the sartorial niceties and wear a pair of gloves that don't match the rest of your outfit. I just wish the DB didn't go in for crimson coloured apparel, a more modest black would be much better.

Well, I don't have problem with having to strike twice. If the hit is not lethal and a mob is gathered, I may still back up into the shadows, lurk a bit more and then strike again when they stopped searching. After all this is what an assassin should do. Get in, strike hard and then vanish.

And shadow warrior perk is pretty much useful if the assassination goes wrong.

Just my 2 cents.

if you really rp an assassin, you are rarely lvling smithing and maybe also enchanting. so no, it is not.

the 30x dmg bonus is important to kill bosses, especially with using 1 dagger.

You wanna know whats seriously overpowered.

SHADOW WARRIOR.

This plus x30 = Untouchable.

Seriously I can get a free sneak attack in open combat every time with this perk.

You're an Assassin. Killing all manner of creatures is your job, you're bread-and-butter. The gloves just make sure that your job goes as smoothly as possible.

And there are creatures that are tough enough to survive a hit even at just the 15x multiplier (think Draugr Deathlord or a Dragon Priest). The 30x damage is just to make sure that Assassin types are still very viable even at the highest levels.

Yep. Gotta make sure a target is not just a little dead, but DEAD dead.
