Strange Markings...

Post » Sun Jun 03, 2012 4:06 am

Has anyone else noticed strange markings scratched into doors, walls etc, theyre like symbols, and appearing more frequent, all different, some circles with lines through....is this quest related, I dont need to know anymore, or is it just scenery detail?

Those are marks made by the Thieves' Guild.

This is exactly why i love TES games, without this thread I would have prob never noticed or if I did see them, never read anything into the marks.

Now though I will keep an eye out for these and they will guide my charaters as much as I can.

Cool as

You should read more in-game books. Shadowmarks, the book is written by Delvin Mallory himself, an important Guild member in the game! :)

I had to search online myself. In my game I bought breezehome and enjoyed the shops being so close to each other. Noticed one day in the middle of the day general goods store(bartholer maybe lol?) well his door was locked... Then I saw the symbol. I broke in his back door an didn't see anyone or anything out of the norm but the marking was the circle with a box inside with lines drawn horizontally through the box... Meaning the store had valuable items to be stolen. Fair enough right? To this day in game the guy hasn't opened his shop back up or been seen in skyrim at all. He just vanished. His assistant is still there and talks like he never went away.

Anyone else have this problem?

if someone dies in the game they die. I'd think that Unsent Soul has experienced this. you probably cleared out his store after he was dead.

the symbols became more prevalant and numerous as I expanded the thieves' guild

I haven't had the reasons to looting his store...yet. I searched the store to see if him/his body was around. It's a loss accepted. On my way to moving to my solitude house. Really nice place.

I spent sixty hours playing a tank and never spotted them! It was only when I started as a thief later that I saw them. And some of them are wrong BTW: raided one house marked as phat loot and there was about $20 worth of stuff in there.

Heh. Maybe the thief that marked the place was a really bad thief....

I thought the Shadowmarks were an excellent addition to the game also, I learned of themthrough the book within my first day of playing. Though I did spend a long time with my thief character (who is guildmaster of the fully restored guild) looking for the thieves caches too and only found 1 randomly in a hollow log (wasn't even smart enough to take not of it's location, doh!) Also breaking into the dungeons trying to find the escape routes with no luck so far. And hoping there'd be a second guild-hall somewhere but no good there either.

the guy who sits in warmadiens armory was "missing" from my game for like 20 hours......

turned out he was up by the companions lodge witnessing the attack by the silverhand and would not return to his shop until after i finished that part of the companions questline........

What you dealt with was scripted. Mine however, is a fluke. Almost 50+ hours I've put in since this happened and he's no where to be found lol.
