"There is only silence right now".....Word wall bug?

Post » Sat Jun 02, 2012 7:59 pm

Arngeir no longer tells me the locations of the world wall now, he says there is only "silence" and he might hear more "later", despite the fact that I've waited several in game days and he still can't locate anymore. I've unlocked all the shouts but he was still been giving me word wall locations afterward to max each one out, but he only just now arbitrarily stopped giving me locations. I still haven't maxed out storm call, marked for death, ice form, frost breath, and a few others. I tried shouting in cities to get couriers but after about a dozen+ shouts in 5 different holds/towns, I haven't gotten one.

So is this a bug or am I meant to locate the other 10 or so word walls in the possible 150+ dungeons that exist?

Don't know if its a bug or a design feature, but if you really want to know all the locations Google is, as ever, your friend.

Some are quest-depended. For example, you can't get the Storm-call one until you get to a certain point in a main quest. One of the Marked for Death word walls is in the Dark Brotherhood Sanctuary, so you have to pick a side for the DB quests to get that one. I'm guessing all of the remaining ones are like that.

I know I can simply look up all the locations on my computer, which is upstairs from my TV. Call it what you like but I liked having the ability to just have the locations marked on my map for me to seek out. Guess I'll have to get used to the back and forth if the rest of these are quest related.

Also, how far into the DB do you have to go to get marked for death? I really like that shout against bosses but I'm not about to go eating and torturing people to get it.Edit: And looking at the posted link, there are a lot of shout locations which aren't quest locked but I don't have. The storm call is one of them, I already got one storm shout when going after alduin and got another in a tomb. I'm missing another tomb one which isn't quest specific.

You don't have to do the DB line at all. Kill the old woman at the orphanage (for the Aretino brat). Then when you get kidnapped, kill Astrid. You'll get a lovely quest lead in to wipe out the DB.... during which you'll get the word from the wall.

[I'm a bit confused by why your computer being upstairs from your tv is an issue? What does your tv have to do with it?]

Yeah that bug happened to me too. I had about 5-6 generic words left to find, non of which were quest specific. I ended up using uesp to find the last few, it's nice to have when the game can't be relied on.

Have you tried shouting in town?

I never talked to the Greybeards, found all my shouts from friendly notes.

This. I never went back (on the only toon that did the MQ) until time to discuss the issues with Paarthurnax.

I tried shouting as well, and so did the OP according to his/her original post. I think it might bug them both out, but I am not sure. I used the Greybeard's option to excess though, possibly 20 word walls discovered from them alone. But once it stopped working with the Greybeards, it stopped working with town shouts as well.

Either way I got a lot of mileage out of it so I am not upset, can't speak for the OP though.

Thinking about it, I tried a shout in a city about a week ago (in game time) and haven't yet seen a courier. It might well be that I used a shout in that city previously. Does the game limit the letters to one per city?

o.O

Should've read slower then, old habits you know...

Imagine there is some flagged event you haven't completedy yet then, as a prior poster stated.

Unless you have completed the Main Quest.

*Edit*

@Hurst

No, I got almost all of my friendly letters in Whiterun.
