There I was minding my own business in Riften when...

Post » Sun Jun 03, 2012 2:11 am

A big ol' Elder Dragon attacked the merchant district. That's right I'm talking about landing on top of a building and scorching the place. It was mad panic. I ran over and shouted the full Mark of Death on him. He swoops down grabs one that nice Dunmer lady that sells er... sold fresh meats and goes flying off again, and lands in the cemetary behind the temple of Mara. I was worried he got the blacksmith. Why don't people know enough to go inside? The guards finished him off. And I got his soul + the usual bones and gold + Riften guard uniform. I guess he was hungry.

"Just like the legends. Dovahkiin."

Still. Walled city. Right in the middle of town. Wow.

Had a dragon attack me inside of Windhelm. Fast traveled there, then everyone is panicking and low and behold, a dragon. I've got screenshots to prove it but nowhere to put them lol.

I've not done the Thalmor Embassy bit of the MQ yet but Elder Dragons are now showing up so they must be a levelled addition. No problem. I don't have a enough dragon souls yet and probably only half the words so far.

On two consecutive returns to Winterhold College just a game hour or two apart, I had two Elders to deal with in the College. Both times when I subsequently returned the skeletons had vanished. Some dragon skellies exist for many game days but these Elders were gone almost immediately. Hmm ... making room for more attacks I presume.

I've had a dragon attack me in riverwood but not a major city yet. ALL the time at the college they show up.

Yeah dragons are leveled to you and elders are level 40. Ancients are at level 50 and the most powerful in the game, even more powerful then alduin except when he's invulnerable.

It seems every damn time I go to the College a dragon appears. Does not help when the elder mages scream "I'm getting out of here!" But the apprentice mages stay to help .

Dragons can attack actual cities? As in, the interiors? 170 hours in between two saves and that's never happened to me. They attack the exteriors all of the time, but I've never had one show up while I was inside the gates. Minor cities are different, as they have no interiors.

Technically its just a random event that can happen like all the others. Although the chances of it happening I do not know.

I've been attacked in Whiterun twice , Falkreath 3 or 4 times , Dawnstar once , Windhelm once , and about 7 times at the college . Seriously , it seemed that every time I came back to that place in between quests there was an elder dragon there .

Been attacked in Solitude - the imperial legion didn't have too much trouble with it. College once as well.

Wow... I've never had a dragon attack a city of its own volition. I've had dragons attacking villages like theres no tomoro but a city nope... Seriously I have currently 76 dragon souls... plus all shouts so I've had not shortage of dragon encounters... :banghead:

Rorikstead got hit six times in five trips through there. Once I was killing a vanilla dragon and could see Alduin resurrecting a new dragon with my peripheral vision. So I finished off that one, healed up, and marched over to kill the named dragon. No big deal, but one of the Rorikstead guards had gotten between my shout and the first dragon and I wound up getting attacked by all the guards in Whiterun when I arrived. I had to hide out in RIften for a week.....

I still have never seen a dragon attack in a city interior. I wonder how on earth it works with so little room to maneuver.
Going to have to look for a youtube video of it.

and thats why he is an ELDER mage, his vast wisdom on the situation has let him get to ripe old age, lmao i shake my head to at the apprenticed mages. Think they so tough and smart because they kno a spell or 2.....sigh

It's possible you also the first time didn't help Balgruuf by killing the dragon Mirmulnir at the Western Watchtower. My experience is THAT is what starts the dragons....
