Viable Warrior

Post » Sun Jun 03, 2012 4:23 am

Hi peeps,

After wandering around for a while with different chars to get the feeling of the game i decided to build my first "real" character. This wil be a character inspired on a bookcharacter of the Wheel of Time series.

This means i will play with the following main attributes:
2 handed weapons (Axes)
Bow
Heavy Armor
Smithing
Alchemy
Enchanting

Will this character survive Skyrim? Second to that, would u change something?

Third question: Is there some kind of leveling guide? U know what quests are advised at which level?

Cheers,

G.

No need for a lvling guide. There's probably a good way to do quests, as far as story structure goes, but that's beside the point.

Yes, your character should survive. Almost too well. I'd take out enchanting. And alchemy. Or at least one. Train up block instead (works for 2handers, don't worry).

As long as you invest some points in combat skills you should survive without too much difficulty. The only thing worth noting is restoration provides an endless amount of healing as long as you have the magicka to back it up, but alchemy works just as well albeit it takes a little more work. It all depends on how you want to play your character.

As for quests, that too is entirely up to you. If you don't care about spoilers, check the Elder Scrolls wikia and read up on a quest before you start it. There are a few quests that will "break" other quests and make them impossible to complete. Depending on how much of the game you want to experience it might be worth the extra effort to make sure you're not going to do something you might regret later on.

And speaking of regret, take a look at http://www.uesp.net/wiki/Skyrim:Leveled_Items and make note of which quests reward what items. There are a few nice pieces on there that would make holding off on completing the related quest worth it in the end.

You have a very similar set-up to my character. In fact, it's exactly the same as my set-up except I use both 1h and 2h weapons (for RP purposes).

Honestly, you'll survive. Easily. :tops:

i would include light armor and blocking.

greatswords are lighter and faster than battleaxes or warhammers

so you want to use them instead.

Hey Guys,

Thanks for the advise. I think ill swap Bow for Block instead.

On another note, how would u dirstribute Magic, Health and Stamina. I was thinking 2/3 on Health and 1/3 Stamina.

Cheers,

G

if you are a packrat like i am you want a lot of stamina to be able to carry it all.

you will also want to go up in health quite a bit too.

i would advise 2 stamina and 1 health and magika whenever.

This is almost exactly the same set up as my warrior, except I put perks into block instead of archery. Note that only the right side of the block tree will benefit 2 handed weapons (this includes quick reflexes).

Also, think about taking out alchemy and switch it to speech instead. Potions are kind of useless to a warrior apart from healing potions, which you can find/buy more than enough of without having to make them yourself. You can still use alchemy and create potions ofcourse, but I don't think it's worth spending the perks. Speech is useful as you will no doubt find yourself with a lot of expensive loot that you need to sell. With 4 perks in speech you can sell anything to anyone, get an extra 500 gold from all merchants, and enable one particular merchant to have 10000 gold. Will save you a lot of time and travelling around.

Anyway, as for the viability, I think you will find yourself feeling like a god after about level 30 or so. 1 hit kills on common enemies and 3 hit kills on dragons. Elemental wizards will be your biggest enemy but with enchanting you can add resists to your armour which will provide you enough protection.

Stats wise I added enough stamina to give me 300 in total, which I find enough for most encounters. The rest goes into health.

GL with your new char!

Great thanks a lot all. Good point on the speech instead of the alchemy.

I will have a blast on this one.

Cheers,

G.

PS can i reset my perks? In case i make a mistake

If I wanted a pure Warrior build I possibly wouldnt bother with alchemy or enchanting. They're awesome skills to have but surely the true skill of being a warrior is being able to pick up pretty much any rusty axe/dagger/dead housecarl and use it as a weapon to smack a dragon out of the sky?

If youre a warrior, why is alchemy and enchanting part of your top skills? You wouldnt be a warrior then. Thats like me asking if my characters a good Battlemage and my skills are sneak, archery alteration and light armor with a little one handed thrown in
