How bad is the brotherhood

Post » Sun Jun 03, 2012 1:58 am

Hey, trying to figure out which quests to do for RP. The thieves guild and companions both had undesireable sell-your-soul sections to progress in the quest line. So I'm not sure what to do about the brotherhood.

My guy supports stormcloaks, will eventually join the companions. I'd like to start off bad and earn redemption, but he's an assassin not a goat sacrifice /blood drinker.

So are they hitmen-for-hire with no conscience or evil demon worshiping necromancing vampires?

Does it impact the world negatively? (run-down city, crime, people hate you, etc) If so, can it be changed by joining other factions, or fiddling with the console?

Evil is in the eye of the beholder.

The darkbrotherhood of all factions can be considered evil. They kill without conscience, only needing a contract to be made with the Night Mother. The person who makes the contract may find the person they want dead evil but they truly may not be as a whole. Without revealing too much about the current state of the brotherhood, they are for now hitmen for hire and have lost their old ways with the nightmother.

There really is no impact onthe world of skyrim either so its all on your own conscience.

The DB in Skyrim is basically a bunch of mercenaries. They dont really worship anyone, in fact they dont really respect the Night Mother in the same way as in Oblivion. The world doesnt get impacted negatively, except that some people will die at your blade. The Companions are more blood-drinkers than the DB, IMO.

Oblivion's DB was pretty extreme, but this time I'd say they're hitmen for hire. No weird religious stuff there.
No impact on the world, either.

I found that although your deeds as an assassin will be talked about widely, and aside from occationaly gaining bounty in a few towns, the DB quests do not have any lasting consiquences. Also the DB has some of the best rewards in the game, an example of this would be Shadowmere, and the armor that you get upon joining. I cannot say much more without spoiling it, but in my opnion the DB is the way to go.

Sweet! I was worried, because last playthrough I joined the thieves guild as an otherwise good guy and
Spoiler
found myself getting people sent to jail, and pledging my soul to some random god
just to get some loot.

Then i did the companions and
Spoiler
I had to become a freaking werewolf
just to keep going.

Oh is any of that gear leveled?

The Companions are sort of mixed up. You've got one brother beating up citizens and being a general [censored] for badmouthing the Companions. You have another brother rescuing kidnapped citizens. They're werewolves out to massacre an anti-werewolf group but the werewolves are the good guys.

The Thieves Guild is the mafia so yes, they're bad people for the most part though you can pick and choose your targets.

I always choose Bedlam or Numbers from Devlin and Burglarly from Vex.

Framing people is the MOST evil option.

I do the same picking and choosing for the Dark Brotherhood. Even so, you WILL kill innocent people to take down the Emperor. Up to you if you believe this is collateral damage.

I joined up pretty much straight away as i enjoyed being with them in Oblivion. However what I found was a basically a gang sticking together for a sense of belonging ness under the name of brotherhood. The assignation of the bride was possibly the highlight of the quest line and that was very early on. It was the only quest that felt like a true assignation for me.

I've been told that all of the DB targets are not angels. Are some of them truly innocent (for lack of a better word)?

DB aren't really bad people. A lot of people you kill are scum anyways. I disliked the DB though. Arnbjorn is a disrespectful loser, Astrid is on a power trip and needs to be slapped, Veezara is an idiot, Krex is okay, Gabriella is cool, Babette is annoying and Cicero is ticklish. I only really felt connected to Cicero because we had similar ideals.

Nilsine Shattershield, Narfi, Lubeck (sp?) the Worst Bard in the World

I'm not sure if I'd call the Emperor's Cousin innocent nor the Gourmet and the other cook. They're collateral damage if you're the kind of guy who considers Titus Mede II the kind of guy who absolutely has to die.

It's not Assassins Creed, though. Not everyone you kill is conveinantly an evil [censored]. You can NOT kill some of these people, though.

Well there is one. Seriously, killing a bride, who is nothing but madly in love with her future husband. Yeah, that's just PURE EVIL. And you do it why? Because some guy hiding in a dark and dingy dungeon paid you to.

I did not see any real 'good' path in the DB, Companions or Thieves Guild. The TG were just bullies, plain and simple. I was hoping after I took control and gained influence everywhere I would have the option to change them, make thems stop picking on innocent folks who are just trying to make a living. Nope, not a chance. The whole WW thing with the companions was just ... wrong. I should have had the option to help them but not become one myself. Where is my sense of choices Bethesda?

That's what I did. I played a Dark Elf whose sole purpose was to do the DB quests and all the Daedric quests. Now I got those out of the way and I can be at least Neutral to Neutral/Good with my other characters.

I wouldn't really consider Nilsine innocent, she did kind of ruin her friends life :P As for Narfi, not to sound like a jerk, but he's poor so he probably stole something like Degaine and Brenuin.

Leburns:It's hard to make a guild more "honorable" when they sustain themselves on a dishonest living. Even though the thieves in Oblivion were honorable, they still deserve to get arrested.

Out of all the guilds as well, I found the Darkbrotherhood to be the most welcoming and gracious out of all of them. They are a family and treat you like a member of the family instead of a grunt they send on petty errands. And I could listen to Astrid talk for days with that seductive whiskey like voice she has.

I won't do the Daedric Prince quests because I don't care for them. Asking me do their bidding all the while insulting me. :P

I 'd like to think that the DB is a haven made for psychopaths.
