I wonder if this works:
1. Perfect Touch perk.
2. Steals all starting armor except their boots. (Leave behind 1 starting equipment will prevent starting set respawn upon map reload.)
3. Equip them with desired civilian clothes.
4. Get married.
5. Spouse won't go back to their default armor / underwears even when reload map.
Does this work?
I was thinking of this scenario because my first save married to Sylgja who always carry a pickaxe before married.
Before I married her, I reversed pickpocket and inserted an ebony dagger which replaces her pickaxe.
After I married her and live with me, she doesn't carry around her pickaxe anymore.
Only the ebony dagger, and permanently.
I wonder if the same concept will occur to followers?
It'll be nice to have a spouse wearing civilian clothes permanently.
Example
1. Steal all Jordis Sword-Maiden starting armor with perfect touch.
2. Leave behind her starting boots so her starting armors won't respawn.
3. Equip her with the desired civilian clothes.
4. Marry her.
5. She'll be wearing her civilian clothes forever and doesn't strip down to her underwear when reload map.
I understand that if this is done to a follower (not yet married) to step 3 and dismissed, they be in their underwears with boots.
Which is kinda irritating because I prefer them to equip their new armors I gave them instead of being naked.
You'll have to trade equip again in order for them to re-equip the armors you gave them.
(Esp. Those thanes in our house, I hate those steel armors.)
