Do Equipped WeaponsArmour Deteriorate?

Post » Sun Jun 03, 2012 7:04 am

During the quest, Legend of Red Eagle, during the battle with Red Eagle my Skyforge steel sword disappeared as well as my gauntlets I had on. I noticed this since all of a sudden I was just punching Red Eagle. It did say something in the top left corner of screen but it went away too fast for me to read it (another annoyance with game, wishing the "info" on top of screen's font was a little bigger and stayed on screen longer). I looted Red Eagle and no missing items as well as I searched the ground everywhere.

I'm not sure if this was a bug. Could someone please clarify this? If your items do deteriorate is there a way to check how bad they are before the disappear?

I believe your weapon got shouted out of your hand. A few powerful enemies in the game have the disarm shout. Don't know about the gauntlets though.

Blisco is absolutely correct. I remember being confused when fighting Red Eagle as well, as he was the first enemy I'd encountered who used the "Disarm" th'uum on me. The only indication that this is what happened is a quick on-screen text notification in the upper-left of the screen that would be easy to miss in the thick of battle.

So, if you're still anywhere near his cave, fret not. You can probably look around on the ground in the general area where you first remember not having the sword in your hand. And chances are, even if it's been a little while, it's probably still there somewhere.

You know, I've often wished that Skyrim kept a message log of all those messages, and NPC dialog, which you could access from the system menu (the menu that comes up when you hit escape [on PC] and let's you do things like looking at various statistics, etc).

I'm not sure, can you get additional Skyforge Steel weapons, or are they unique? It might be faster to just get/make another sword and gauntlets. . .

Although that sounds like the best explanation, my follower (Lydia) has lost 3 bows and 3 swords in the past week. And, we were not/didn't fight anyone that uses that particular shout. They have just disappeared. I replace them, and it happens again.

I have not been able to connect it to anything that we did in-game.

I had this really neat custom made/enchanted sword that got shouted out of my hand and it took me 30 minutes to find it. I leveled one of my magic skills casting the light spell so many times. :stare:

You can buy skyforged weapons from the blacksmith at the skyforge in Whiterun. During the companion quest they make you one at some point for free and during the quest that gets you there, you can pick up one of the companion's greatsword which duplicates when he ... ummm... does his thing. Don't want to spoil.

I think that's a different problem. I think that Lydia *does* mysteriously lose inventory items. I could swear that's happened to me several times, so I never give her anything really important to carry. It'd be nice to get an acknowledgement of the problem from Bethesda, but near as I can tell, they don't usually acknowledge a bug until it's part of a published patch.

At first, I wasn't really positive that Lydia had lost my stuff, but I've seen a number of other people reporting this, so I strongly believe this to be the case.
