Esbern is holding me back

Post » Sun Jun 03, 2012 3:59 pm

So, from what i hear esbern is a known bug for all you skyrim players. My problem is this:
i needed to escord the basterd to riverwood but he didnt want to get going so i just got ahead myself, last time i finished the game when i got to the Sleeping Giant Inn he was already there and i was ready to continue with the main stroyline, but this time, Delphine is pist that i left him alone with the thalmor on his tail..... What are my options?

Really, as unfortunate as it is to spoil Esbern's living-ness, it was not a shock to any member who followed the pre-release hype. Esbern was confirmed to play a major role (I personally thought his role was built up to be bigger than it actually was) by Todd in all sorts of videos.

It's Esbern who narrates the trailer, it would be a bit of a disappointment if he wasn't alive after that.

On topic: You will probably have to load a save from before this happened. Or you could try going back to the Ratway and then going to Riverwood again.

I'm stuck on exactly the same thing. I decided to walk from Riften Ratways to Riverwood with Esbern but the useless fool got lost in the mountains and disappeared on the way. Now you can't find him anywhere. Contacted Bethesda who told me it MIGHT be a bug fixed in update 1.4 but couldn't confirm it. VERY annoying as I'm on level 26 now and to load the last save when Esbern was still there means losing 65hours of play time and going back to level 12-not happening!

Gutted. How can the MAIN story have such a major bug? You CAN'T complete the game unless this is fixed. Aaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaarrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrggggggghhhhhhhhhhhhhh!!!!!!!!

I only use fast travel for times like this and when in overencumbered. It's just not with the hassle

It is fixed by adding the BSA that contains his voice files to the correct INI entry. Just a moment, I'll look it up.

EDIT: Hm I could swear someone mentioned here that he didn't have voice files...

Anyway, get his formID code and use the MoveTo Player command on him.

Please do not post Spoilers in General.

People come to General to learn about the game without learning about what happens in the game. If they want to know about what happens, that is what the Cheats, Hints and Spoilers section is for.

Do not use quest details or location specific details related to quests/puzzles/NPCs in your posts in this section. General is for discussing gameplay and mechanics and general topics about the the game including but not limited to races, items and their use, magic, enchanting, skills, character builds, criticism, praise, funny random things that happen, places from an esthetic standpoint and and other general topics.

Use the Spoilers Section if you have to post quest details or other spoilers or a thread about the same. I will move this now.

Yeah, I'm playing no fast travel but I had to make an exception for Esbern. FT'd to Riverwood and there he was.

Ok, so I have to ask, is there somewhere that we would have known about Esbern before playing the game and meeting him? It sounds like some of you guys knew about this character before the game was even released (someone mentioned that Esbern narrates the trailer; well, that's fine and all, but before the game was released, and I watched the trailer, it was just a completely unknown, disembodied voice to me)? Did he show up in the second of the TES books that was released earlier this year, or something?
