but why wont it decay

why do dragons decay ? why does taking a dragons soul also mean taking its flesh ?

when i kill stuff with a soul trap on them I dont take their flesh!

Pre 1.3 I used dragon lairs for soul farming and iirc after 1.3 Bethesda changed it so you can no longer do that. It may be something related to that. Did you kill a dragon at a lair you had previously cleared?

I'm certainly not the best authority on this, but my theory:

The dragons were all "killed" a looooong time ago. But the only way to completely kill a dragon, is for a Dohvakiin to absorb its soul. So they have all been in a hibernative state until they were revived by Alduin. So when you kill a dragon and absorb its soul, its well and truly dead, with no possible returning for it, so it all rots away.

I dont have ANY patches

and ive killed about 5 respawning dragons passing by their lairs or getting a quest to go back up to an area i had cleared a week before

one that wont decay i found in middle of no where near a giant camp

even though he found you out in the middle of nowhere, his spawn point may be a word wall where you had already killed the dragon and absorbed it's soul. in any case, if you leave that area for long enough it will eventually disappear.
