Justifying being in the Dark Brotherhood as well as the Legi

Titus Mede realized that he was a hinderance to the stability of the Empire due to the decisions he made. While not as well known as Martin's sacrifice Titus also sacrifices himself for the Empire. He fufilled his duty as Emporer and so should you as his assassin.

As an aside I liked how the assassination played out like Angel Eyes starting story in The Good The Bad the Ugly.

you love the empire so much that you want the best leader to be emperor and the current one is not worthy of the crown so you fix that ;)

My character doing the DB is a Nord hating Dunmer who sided with the imps out of convenience. He has no qualms about killing the emperor and probably lied when taking the oath.

Once you join the Dark Brotherhood, your loyalty to them becomes more important than any other oath you've taken. You're a professional assassin who is paid to kill. Do your job

Besides, a true assassin is always looking out for himself. Trust no one, not even the Empire.

Okay started a new play-through siding with the imperials. I see a major problem in lore here though.

How do we justify killing the emperor when we have sided with the emperor?
Maybe it's Tullius who performed the sacrament or anyone close to the Emperor, because Emperors, like Kings, generally get assassinated ; see Uriel Septim VII in Oblivion. To put it shortly, you are the weapon and weapons don't need any justification regarding what they have to do. Weapons kill; they don't wonder if it's justified or no.

Well, when I started my Imperial toon and joined the Legion, I simply wiped out the DB LOL

My husband's legion character is also DB. He plays it that he joined the legion without realizing what a wet Titus Mede II was and only gradually after being kicked in the head over and over by the Thalmor decides that the empire needs to die. Titus Mede II fearless? Hardly. He's the chap who handed over the whole works to the Aldmeri when the Redguard proved he didn't need to.

And yes, you do have to break your oath to the Legion. It makes for a tragic character, realizing that some things are more important than keeping that oath or even your own soul.

That's exactly the way I'm playing my current character. I genuinely decided that I didn't like Tullius and the Empire but it was too late to stop the whole thing; so I finished it up and redemption will come through killing the Emperor.

There's also the option of not ever joining the DB. Do it with another character and play it from the Stormcloak side. You don't have to do every single quest/storyline with a character.

I'm a stormcloack but in the mission I had to kill the emperor I really felt sorry for him.
He was in my eyes a really sympathic man and with pain in my hart I shot a arrow in his knee.
And yes I killed the man who gave me the mission to kill the emperor (don't know his name)

The other way to do it is to do the DB quests first.
He accepted his death and showed no fear, Also during the second battle of the Imperial city He personally lead the charge, And the redguards didn't kick the Thalmor out, They only delayed them and are still fighting a guerilla war.

Heads of state are quite often assassinted by their own soldiers. Sometimes, by their closest advisors.

Well the way I justify it, the empire needs the emperor it deserves. A true warrior that will wipe out and cleanse the land of all Thalmor. An emperor that will bring the empire back to its full glory. When I end the emperor's life, I won't do it out of hate, I won't do it for the gold, and I won't do it for the Night Mother. I will end the life of Titus Mede II for the future of the Empire.

My Orc did it for the gold though, different strokes for different folks.

When you join The Legion you also take A oath.
"Upon my honor I do swear undying loyalty to the Emperor Titus Mede II, and unwavering obedience to the officers of his great Empire. May those above judge me, and those below take me, if I fail in my duty.Long live the Emperor! Long live the Empire!"

But what if he's dead? You take an oath to serve a dead emperor? Unwavering obedience to the officers of his great Empire? Oh I guess it's no worse than the other side's oath. Although my true oath is to Sithis. If the Night Mother said to kill Ulfric, I'd do it without hesitation. Maybe with a bit more style than I did with Mede II. Like ask for an audience and issue a challenge, even though Sonja is fighting for him now.

But alas, Empires are rife with treachery. Just look back in history. It is better to be the Listener than to be Emperor.
