The mysterious friend

Post » Sun Jun 03, 2012 6:54 pm

I discovered not that long ago that if you use a none hostle shout in big cities like solitude or whiterun, when theirs guards around, sometimes a courier comes running up to you with a letter from an "unknown" friend that leads me to shout words.

I am wondering if this msyerious friend of mine are actually the Greybeards communicating with me?

That's why it is a mystery, nobody knows.

if you use a non-damaging shout in public then there's a chance you'll get a letter from a mysterious friend who is impressed by your thu'um and tells you the location of a word wall in Skyrim where you can go learn more parts of the shouts. The same sorts of locations that the Graybeards will give you one at a time.

Don't think its the Greybeards. After all they send for you and give you locations by just telling you. Not their style.
All this cloak and dagger mystery stuff makes me think its Delphine. We know from her conversation with Farangar that shes been researching the dragons.

I also kind of just assumed that it was Delphine sending the letters at first, but it doesn't really fit. She already knows you're the Dragonborn. Why would she only send you new locations when you shout in public? If it was her, I would think that she would just send you a new location as soon as she discovered it.

Good point. It does seem more her style than that of the Greybeards though. Who else would have the knowledge and not want you to know they are helping you?

LOL well he dictates the letter to the Greybeards of course, who then send it down the mountain with the guy who delivers the food! :D

Paper is expensive. And you don't have to use the shout in a public place. I was told I'd created quite a stir in "Autumn Watch" by using one. No one else was around...

However, after my "friend" sent me to Shearpoint I decided it was the Thalmor trying to kill me....

LMAO now there's a possibility! They are sending you into all these dangerous places in the hopes to eliminate you. hahahaha

Yea, I also used my "Aura Whisper" shout around the Apprentice Stone in the marshes across Solitude and I got a letter from a friend, saying that I impressed them with my shouting in the Apprentice Stone LOL

My first playthrough, I was a Bosmer who joined the Stormcloaks. She always imagined it was Ulfric sending the letters, since he would want to remain anonymous, had eyes (stormcloaks) in a lot of places, and he can use the Thu'um, so it made sense to her.

Referring to the letters that tell you to go and investigate a strange source of power somewhere...

I always thought the writer sounded like Esbern's speech styles. "You caused quite a stir..."

So eventually the deadbeards said they can't hear the words in the world anymore, maybe later. Sure, maybe never.
I stopped getting those letters as well - my last few were total repeats of words I'd already found. Except the [random place I used a shout] in those last letters was at a dungeon that I had recently visited.
Really? I caused quite a stir with the draugr when I breathed fire on them? No kidding.
