Disproportioned Rewards

Post » Sun Jun 03, 2012 6:13 pm

So I started the Thieves Guild quest-line at level 42 (I'm a late bloomer). Once I finished my first mission I got a whopping 100 gold! Nice... Normally that wouldn't be a problem since it's the first mission, but when given a reply choice to work for the guild, one of the possible replies is "the money's good, but I don't know." The money's good!!?? Really??? A set of wolf pelts is more lucrative. Picking flowers is more lucrative! It's not a big gripe, I know, but it spoils immersion, just like opening a huge, expertly-closed chest only to find the contents therein are less valuable than on the poor saps you killed to get to the chest.

have yo utaken riadiant quests? yo uonly get 100-300 gold, too. Gold isn't leveled for your level it seems for any of the quests.

WRONG. The DB repeatable radiant quests are indeed scaled to your level. I can't speak for any others though.

EDIT: AFAIK, the rewards are something like 400

Please do not post Spoilers in General.

People come to General to learn about the game without learning about what happens in the game. If they want to know about what happens, that is what the Cheats, Hints and Spoilers section is for.

Do not use quest details or location specific details related to quests/puzzles/NPCs in your posts in this section. General is for discussing gameplay and mechanics. General topics about the the game include but are not limited to: races, items and their use, magic, enchanting, skills, perks, character builds, Skyrim specific Lore, criticism, praise, funny random things that happen, places from an esthetic standpoint and and other general topics.

Use the Spoilers Section if you have to post quest details or other spoilers or a thread about the same. Location specific details are also spoilers, this includes unique item/NPC locations and puzzles. The Spoilers section is also for exploits with character builds.

I will move this now.

I edited it to remove names and spoilers

Anyway, I noticed it wasn't scaled. But the problem isn't the money, it's the reply. Money from quests has never been a source of income since Oblivion (or maybe even before). It's just "there" to legitimize the mission. This possible reply spoils immersion, and also brings to light the whole reward/loot issue present in recent ES games.

haven't yo uever noticed, that begger's and poor people in Oblivio nand skyrim and suc halways treated 1 gold or like 10 gold as like a very generous amount and they could live off it for days/weeks but it wouldn't pay for a room in a tavern or any food?

It's quite silly that a poor single mom can pay you, what, 800 gold for getting rid of an unwanted suitor, while the most notorious assassin organization pays you 200 gold per hit.

The quest rewards are quite strange. The generic ones for the jarl like kill a bandit always seem to earn only 100, but others are levelled in a silly way, like I recieved 750 gold for delivering a piece of dog-food in a city which seemed a bit over the top!
