Does anyone know why some alchemy ingredients are stronger t

I've noticed that making a normal Damage Health potion at my level does around 33 points of health damage. Some ingredients however do more damage, even though there is no indication as to why that is so.

For example: using a Deathbell in a DH potion does 48 points of damage, while using a river betty does a whopping 81 points.

It probably has to with the rareness of the ingredient, how difficult it is to find. The River Betty is a fish, and not just a plant, so I would think it would do more. So, if you use better or rare ingredients, along with fortify alchemy gear, you will get stronger (and more expensive) potions in the process. They will also become stronger as you level the skill.

Because most ingredients are better quality, like the Jaren root you get from Astrid, instead of using it for what it was for I made an extremely deadly potion.

Look at it like weed, some is weak and some will send you on a journey.

I do not condone the use and have never taken drugs. The information I know, I know from films and books.

I don't know why but i like the concept. I disliked how in oblivion/morrowind you might have an ingredient costing 400gp but it was just as effective as the one which cost 2 gp. I do not like how it is not noted anywhere when you experiment. A small note like very weak or normal or strong next to the effect after you discover it when you look at an ingredient would make this an awesome feature. Without it, it is nice but not awesome.

I hate spoilers more than most, but come on, was it that hard to believe that something called Death Bell would have dh effects? Maybe for the fish, but that's pretty minor.
