How strictly do you RP?

Post » Sun Jun 03, 2012 10:09 pm

On character number 4 I got really strict with. NO fast travel at all. If she ends up outside at nighttime, she must find somewhere to sleep.
She is completely Nord, so doesn't use magic. She will use potions.
She does seem to have a tendency to like the taverns, sometimes going too far and forgetting what she did the night before. This has led to unfortunate circumstances for her, and some kick butt headaches.
Dropping some weapons in the bar led to some interesting moments for her.
Hopefully next time she won't run off with the common rabble and get married again.

The other thing I do is always jump on my horse before fast traveling.
I do that too - mainly so I can ride away from a fight if I 'land' in the range of hostiles.

I'm not as strict as some, but I do tend to set limits on what equipment a given character will use and how they will behave overall. I also tend to let the character tell me what he/she will/not do as I play, as some things have to be decided on the spot according to the character's current mindset.

Probably not at all or very strictly depending upon how you look at it.

Basically, I behave the way I would in RL if faced with the same scenarios (except when prevented by Bethesda (ie child 'disciplining')). I don't sleep or eat regularly - in fact, I've never eaten anything except to test Alchemy properties; however, I will drink a mead at a bar before "waiting" until morning.

OMG, you still put up with those midgets? hehe i dealt with them AGES AGO, if you play mods then check it out,

hehe ow poor little frodnar you thought you were protected by mummy beths immortality but i took it away form you and cut you up into little pieces and fed you to hilde-the savage woman

most satisfying moment of skyrim ever

I will reload. but for instance my warrior character didn't greatly appreciate the 'twist' in in the Companions quest and my thief wasn't expecting to make the deals she did in the last part of the Guild quest.

they could have walked away but in the end they made compromises

lifes a bit like that.

Their's one quest in particular that I re-loaded for, but only because their was no other way out. I mean no choices, no lock picking etc. ( though really wood door's battle axe? yeah, I don't need a lockpick! )

I reaponded earlier, but I'm thinking about starting a new character with the following guidelines:

No fast travel (seems to be a common one)
Magic and archery only
Robes and clothes only
No crafting (so finding new equipment is actually exciting)
No TG/DB
No main quest past Unbound
No Daedric quests

We'll see how it goes. I've got 45 hours in my current character, but having no real direction is getting a tad boring. I started as an assassin/thief, but over time became more of a full in brawler who sometimes got a sneak attack in. I have most of the Daedric artifacts, but I think I'll pass on them as my mage will have no interest in them.

Depends on the toon. I have one toon who is SERIOUS roleplay. I have two or three others who are "quasi-RP" - I play them mostly as if I myself was the character, though of course there will be issues with the depth of it. And I have a bunch that I don't do anything but run around, kill stuff, smith, enchant, quest....

Hon, these kids are patzers compared to the ones in WoW. I don't get why people are so bothered about the kids in this game. Actually, they remind me a lot of just - plain - kids.

Yeah, RL children are the reason I don't play MMOs anymore. :P

Eh, I wasn't meaning the player-brats.... I was meaning, for instance, Donna and William.... Yeah, the player-brats are pretty awful (but then again, I don't ever talk to anyone etc. so I don't really deal with that.)

Yep. Various places.... Stormwind is infested with Donna and William. Not to mention at least half a dozen fishing boys. AND Timmy with the White Kitten. The fishing boys are "noisy" - talking amongst themselves all the time, though mostly it's funny stuff, just like little IRL boys exaggerate. Timmy sells a kitten he's no longer allowed to keep.

Donna and William.... MY GODDESS they're annoying. HE used to chase HER around the canol district, threatening to dismember her doll. Now SHE chases him, threatening to dismember his Grindgear Gorilla.... If you spend any time at all in SW, you cannot AVOID hearing them. Gah.

OK, that sounds familiar, but I don't recall their dialogue. :P They didn't taunt/insult us though, right?

Oh no. You can't interact with them at all. It's just the level of "noise" to signal....

Its been ages since I played GW, were there any kids there? Aside from a pre-Searing Gwen? now, the kids who played it, blech. Xx I Am Teh Ubers xX. Yeah, that's why you die 8 times in one mission, cause you're uber.

Anyways, I rarely sleep, especially since health and magicka regenerate on their own. Even in Morrowind, I played under the Atronach sign a lot, so I only slept when it was time to level up. There's no fatigue in this game, unlike say Baldur's Gate where you would take penalties on your attack rolls. I might test out the Thieves Guild and DB, but likey wont seriously play those quest lines. Besides, there's no forks to steal, so what's the point? Gems? Magic weapons? Bah! I more or less play honorable characters. When I play evil, it's Lawful Evil, for example. But I absolutely despise LG types, especially Paladins, as anybody who knew me from the Interplay forums could attest to.

Ah. :P I'm pretty good at tuning that kind of stuff out (I"m a guy.) especially since most games have the repetitive dialogue from NPCs. I have to tune it out lest it would drive me crazy. :o

I'm not too strict. However, I do take my helmet and gauntlets off when speaking to people (respect). I always aim center mass when shooting my bow (habit). Then there is this weird thing I do after a big fight, grab a trophy and T-bag (pride). I guess I try to mold my character into a self projected image of myself instead of making someone I wish I was like most.

Wow, some are very strict role-players. I do imagine a back story/history for my characters and then I try to mold them around what I think they would do or not do. My first toon is a staunch Nord and therefore joined the Stormcloaks. However, she was also the character I wanted to experience everything Skyrim had to offer, so she did it all, DB, TG, Mages Guild, Companions (Didn't join the Blades though, no way I would kill Paarthy lol)

Then I made an Imperial toon, who of course, wiped out the DB. My next one was a Shadow Warrior Breton and she does what ever she wants!

I do make sure they eat and drink and sleep. I don't really put any rules on how to smith or enchant or travel. It's a magical world, so yea, all my toons know a bit about Enchanting LOL

There's one rule I follow, if I've been to a place, I can fast travel to it! LOL I do explore a lot on foot, but I don't see the point of walking from Solitude to Riften to turn in a quest. There's nothing happening that I haven't seen before. Sure, there are a few unique locations or instances or NPC interactions you might miss out on, but you will come across those eventually. I only have so many hours in the evening, and I don't want to spent them slaying bears or mudcrabs LOL
