How to become Thane of Riften? : V

I did the skooma mission for her, she awarded me a useless bow and there's no dialogue about helping x amount of people and purchasing a house much less becomming a thane. Am I missing something here?

Help out around Riften (I think 5 people) and then talk to her and see if it works.

IIRC there is a glitch about becoming the Riften thane that is fixed in the 1.4 patch...?

Well helping 5 people worked. However, I am wondering why it looks like one of my manniquins is walking off the stand... very weird...

Mannequins glitch in all the houses I've had. i think it's supposed to be fixed in the upcoming patch, but I'm not 100% sure.

You haven't seen weird yet. Install the Honeysmithy mod (if you're on pc). THAT gives you a very nice smithing area in Honeyside's basemant.... AND a living breathing mannequin....

Scared the living stuff out of me. I kid you not.

Well bra, at some point, the Jarl of Riften can change. After that change, you can't become thane anymore dude.

Do you mean with the civil war?

Once Maven becomes Jarl, she can still make you Thane under the same conditions as Laila Law-Giver, but she doesn't say anything about it until you complete them all.

I've completed everything possible and have the quest "Talk to the Jarl of Riften", but get no dialog options from her. I've done the misc quests in Riften and bought the house. I'm half-assing the Thieves guild quests though, somewhere around the Nightengale templeish quest I think.

Hmm. I didn't get any "Talk to the Jarl of Riften" quests after the skooma missions. Tried talking to her after doing 5 or 6 favours, didn't get any dialogue options. She just said she'd noticed me trying to undermine her support and that making me Thane would be easier than killing me......

Most likely what happened to me is that I had that quest before switching the Jarl's out at the signing of the peace treaty.
Hm, maybe I should track down the old Jarl and see if that'll complete the quest then. I do it when I get home from work and get back to you all.
