Here is the list of bugs for that quest. Check and see if your problem is on there.
BUGS:
If you obtain the Elder Scroll before first meeting Paarthurnax, and use the dialog option "I have the Elder Scroll" immediately after receiving a quest to get the scroll, you will advance the quest but the time anomaly will not be present. Quest marker will not appear either. You have to go away (by foot or fast travel) and return (it is safe to return when the quest marker appears at the Throat of the World).
During this quest, if a player attacks Alduin before the initial speech to the player is completed, a bug may occur in which the player can no longer deal damage to Alduin, regardless of attacks.
The player can restart the Xbox, and the issue will usually be resolved. Sometimes you may need to go into console settings>memory>(y) button> and reset cache, after doing so, the player may resume after update, and defeat Alduin.
Turning off system and turning on again and loading game should fix problem. (Tested with save file just before dialogue begins)
Attacking Alduin while invisible should fix this on the PC
After the scene when they banish Alduin with the Elder Scroll, the player should go back to the present to defeat Alduin, if that doesn't happen you can type the following in the console to advance the quest:
"setstage mq206 70" This will give you the Dragonrend shout.
"setstage mq206 100" This will end the vision and transport you back to the present.
There is a bug where Paarthurnax stops being able to attack Alduin. Paarthurnax simply stands on the ground and does not move his feet or attack. It is not possible to talk to Paarthurnax either. Alduin does not take any notice of Paarthurnax's presence, which results in Alduin focusing on the player only. This seems to happen if the player uses Dragonrend on Paarthurnax, which puts him in a permanent state of not being able to do any actions. A workaround is to reload an earlier save. Paarthurnax's aid is not required to beat Alduin, however, he makes it a lot easier to finish the quest.
Sometimes after you read the Elder Scroll you will see into the past but nothing will happen. Your character will just stand there looking down a rocky path towards the red sky. You will hear and feel the dragons flying around but no dragon will land, no fighting will occur and there will be no dialogue. This glitch may occur after the three Nord heros talk about the Elder Scroll and say Alduin is coming. Alduin will fly around but not land making it impossible to continue. Restarting the game seem to fix this.
There is a bug where if you take a follower to the fight with you before you read the elder scroll, when you come back to the present your follower can get "stuck" in the past.
This can be fixed on the PC by typing into the console "prid " and then "enable". I used it at the Throat of the World just to be safe, although it may work anywhere.
Theres is a bug where if you are on The Jagged Crown quest. You can not talk to Ulfric or Galmar to complete either Alduin's Bane or The Jagged Crown.
There's a bug that can occur if you save during Alduin's dialogue where he will just continue to flap his wings and hover. Nothing with happen and you cannot continue the quest. A fix is to load the autosave from coming out of the past and the scene will play out as normal.
