Guild chests

Post » Sun Jun 03, 2012 2:35 pm

Hey, well I haven't bought any house yet on my current character, and I'm curious if the chest behind your bed at the Thieves guild is safe and will not reset the loot?
I really need somewhere to put all the books I'm carrying, haha

As far as I know they are safe once you become a guild member.

Guild containers are not owned by the player, so only player home containers are safe to keep items in iirc.

It is true that you do not own them but safe use of the containers is a guild member privelige. Kind of like your chest in the College of Winterhold.

I did a quick search of the forum rules and didn’t find anything about not quoting directly from the guide book. But, I”ll er on the side of caution just in case.

Question for the Mods?

As far as I know, the bed behind the barrier not listed as owned is yours and so isn't the chest. It should be safe to store your stuff in. (Just like the one in the Arch Mages quarters).

In my experience I've never had a barrel of chest I didn't own reset. Since I started this game I have always used the barrels between breezehome and Warmaiden's as my stash spot, even before I bought breezehome. I used them on a daily basis, so maybe that's why they never reset. But I'm at level 40 and I still keep all of my smithing goods (and I have a lot of it) in the barrel right next to the main street and nothing has ever gone missing.

I'm wondering... If you use use the barrel of chest every day then does it become a safe place to store things? In my experience that is exactly what happens.

I took Uthgerd the Unbroken as a follower and took her house key and began storing stuff there. Looked like it was cool for the longest time and i went there regularly to stash and retrieve items. The last time I went after about 50ish hours playtime 3 of the 4 containers had reset and i had lost tons of materials, ingrediants, and armor. So it may seem safe but dont count on it.

My barrels near War Maidens respawn. You've been lucky it seems.

They reset every X amount of days that they go untouched*. X is something like 7+ I believe. And as far as I know this also applies to plants, which is why the Lavender in Whiterun never seems to respawn for me.

*It's really more of a "every day they aren't loaded" so the barrels in Whiterun shouldn't reset if you visit Whiterun at least once per in-game week.
