Problem with Esbern

Post » Sun Jun 03, 2012 11:52 pm

Hi.
I started playing Skyrim again after shelfing it for a while but the first thing that happend was me running into a bug.

In the main quest when i should talk to Esbern in the ratways it becomes wierd. I get to him alright but when i start talking to him he isn't actually talking and the subtitels roll by really fast so you do not have time to read it. And after the conversation is done he doesn't open the door and you can't open the door and there is no way to get in to him.

Is there any way to fix this? i put in many hours in this game and it would svck if I can't finish the main quest when i finaly gotten around to do it.

appreciate the help :)

Restart the game. Then load the saved game and try again. If that doesn't help...good luck.

I got the same bug. Reloading didn't help. I have to wait for a patch. :(

i believe there is a mod that fixes it on nexus for the PC. If u r using PC then DL the mod immediately. I believe it is called Esbern Voice fix. If u r on console...i dont think the 1.4 patch fixed it

I happen to run into that bug as well, and the Esbern Voice fix helped to fix it.

The voice mod it self seems to have been taken down but i found a "how to" guide http://skyrim.nexusmods.com/downloads/file.php?id=575

I did everything it said and it still doesn't work. Is there no hope at all at this point?

I killed the blind lady and one of the other two guys (the aggressive one) that are in that same area and it seemed to work. Try that.

Esbern is suppose to tell you to go away at first until you tell him Delphine sent you. He won't open the door until you mention Delphine.

But obviously you need to get the dialogue first. Good luck.

Didn't work. This is very depressing :(

That svcks.

Let me guess, you don't have a previous save. If not then you can't continue the main quest.

If I were you I would go to UESP and find the quest ID for that quest. It might be possible to skip to the next part of the quest with a setstage command on PC, setstage MQ202 160 or setstage MQ202 170 I hope that helps!

It worked to get passed the door but all conversation with Esbern in rat wards or after them are broken and won't start. So i had to skip a lot of content of the main quest and have idea what is going on any more. So i hope that the mq work as it should on another character

This is a problem with TES games.... SAVE and SAVE OFTEN. Make about 15 save games before you start overwriting any of them. Always leave the first one (prisoner) so you don't have to watch the opening scene again unless you want to go through that.

problem is if you have several characters it's sometimes hard to keep track of all saves

True. Very true. I don't play on the PC, but it used to be you could give your saves unique names. Not anymore? I know on the console you're SOL.

No not anymore just "Save" and som numbers after that. Not much to go on when searching for character or an earlier save
