Gold Mine and Ebony Mine

Post » Sun Jun 03, 2012 6:51 pm

Anyone know where there is a good source of gold and ebony? I need to find a good source so I can continue to make jewelery and various weapons. I have been going to every mine I meet and have yet to find a source of either precious metal.

Ha, that's a pity; I just fell on a gold vein right in the middle of nowhere and I won't be able to tell you exactly its location. I had left Rorikstead and was heading east in the direction of Whiterun, not using the roads and it was on the left bank of a small river; that's all I can tell.

The Only Ebony mine is the Orcish Mine by Windhelm, I forget the name of the mine. But its southeast of Windhelm.

The Only Gold mine is part of a quest just outside Markarth. The Mine it self is along the Northern road leaveing Markarth.

Shor's Stone (N of Riften) has 3 Ebony Ore by the smelter outside (respawn) and then 3 ore viens in the mine (3 ore each and respawn) for a total of 12 ore = 6 ebony ingots. The ore by the smelter seems to respawn more often than the viens insided (don't know what the frequency of vien respawn is).

As usual, UESP to the rescue: http://www.uesp.net/wiki/Skyrim:Mines

I have yet to sit and dagger-up my enchanting, but I have been collecting iron daggers off my victims. In Proudspire there is a little box on the floor right by a soulgem stand in the basemant by the alchemy enchanter table . I've got to have 75 daggers in there from my travels, 80% iron, 20% steel. I like keeping a private stock.

A couple Gold veins in and around Darkshade Cave, on the river east of Valtheim towers.
Spoiler
Watch out for the trolls though
(however, you're likely at a level where you'll walk over them)

At later levels ebony ore and ingots regularly pop up on vendors, quite useful if you've just raided a dungeon as you can buy the ore and/or ingots and then sell stuff to cover the cost.

I've never found it on a random weapon found in loot, but if you look around on vendors some will eventually have it at higher levels. The lowest base banish enchantment is a level 4 enchantment, meaning its only found on orcish weapons and up. It's hard to find sometimes but be patient and if you see a weapon that says banish d?dra up to level XX, buy it.

To get to it you need to go through the Orc Stronghold, so you'll want to get in good with them first. it is possible, through careful cliff-scaling, to drop onto the mine entrance from above and bypass the stronghold, however the Orcs in the mine may take violent exception to your being there if you do so.

Important note: such weapons are insanely expensive unless you have a high Speech skill and some related perks, so be prepared to sell everything you have to get one. If that turns out to be necessary, do it anyway, as such weapons are a fairly rare spawn unil high levels; you'll more than make it back with just a few mid-tier weapons and can then buy even more stuff to disenchant and use for custom items.

For gold ore, run to Halted Steam Camp (by Whiterun) and pick up the transmute spell from inside.

Than just cast it while you run around. This will turn silver ore -> gold ore, or if you have no silver, iron ore -> silver ore. I just run around casting it when I get enough magicka.

Also seems most the ORC camps have ebony mines around them.

Been there, done that, Orcs were pissy but kept their weapons sheathed.

Actually, only 1 has Ebony and 2 have Orichalcum, and I'm unsure as to what Largushbur has, if it does have one. Also, the only other Ebony Mine is in Shor's Stone.
