Way to know who sent the Dark brotherhood after you?

Post » Sun Jun 03, 2012 5:41 pm

It never seems to happen to me until after the Greybeards call for me but I have no proof of anything.

That's when I saw them on my character. Seemed someone was trying to kill the new Dragonborn. Then my other character completed the MQ without ever seeing them.

I think the random encounters are somewhat broken. Reason is there are two kinds specifically for mages, the mages duel and the guy who wants to see a ward (not tolfdir). My warrior joined the college just to see inside and git both encounters within an hour. My mage has joined the college at 8 and is up to 40 without seeing either.

49 DB assassins killed. All Argonian.

It's because I killed that Argonian bandit when I started playing, isn't it?

I want to hire thugs to go after someone who crosses me!

Well, if they can do it to me, why not repay the favor?

3 characters here, never encountered DB Assassins. Hired thugs, yes. Necromancers, yes but no assassins.

I always played good. In my crime statistics I have 265 locks picked, 3 items stolen but they were not tagged stolen or red. It was for the main quest (necessary) and 17 assaults. At level 72..

So I wondered why the DB were after me. Then I killed Grelot the Kind (1 assault) and Astrid (1 assault) and got rid of the DB. Now I have no problem except sometimes for a thief.

I wanted to train one-handed and destruction with a summoned creature like wolf and flame atronach. But checking later in my stats I found hundreds of assaults. I even got assaults for a dragon, a bear, etc.. These stats are bugged.

No one did. It's just a random encounter that stops if you join or destroy them.
I didnt know this, thanks for the info.

I've only had the DB encounter one time, and that was after clearing Northwatch Keep waaaaaay back a few days after release. After reading the preview in Game Informer that was obviously my first task I wanted to undertake. The 5 characters I've made since November have had no luck (if you call it that) with being attacked by the DB.

I think you have to be discovered during a crime or bribe guards to get hired thugs.

I've gotten hired thugs sent by the old lady in the cabin. After I killed her.

I think one of the patches affected random encounters. My character made under 1.1 that had most of It's playtime spent on 1.1 and 1.2 has seen all of the encounters. Yet my characters made under 1.3 have seen none of them. So I'm guessing 1.3 did something to them.

Is their a way of finding out? The letters on the assassins bodies never says.
It's simple: they were sent by the people that are close to someone you killed. If you killed many, take your pick.

My character killed three thalmor who were with a prisoner. He killed them after talking to them and clicking on the line "You got me, I worship Talos". These were the only ones he had killed and not long after he got the visit of assassins...

Except i've gotten them on characters who don't commit crimes. And i doubt random bandits, Thalmor or other dungeon fillers can send them after you.

Thus i stand by my view that it's a random encounter. Key word "random", which is why some people don't get them. I don't have random dragon attacks, at all.
