A Cornered Rat still will not activate

Post » Sun Jun 03, 2012 7:18 pm

It's been a month since I emailed Bethesda about being stuck in the game because after completing 'Diplomatic Immunity' the next quest 'A Cornered Rat' will not activate, I explained that I had tried absolutely everything, nothing works, restarting my game was not an option since I had put way too much time into my character. They emailed back the next day (which I appreciated) saying that they were aware of the issue and it will be fixed in the next patch. That was two patches ago. Still nothing. Many other players on all platforms are having this issue. It's pretty hard to enjoy the game when you know you can't actually finish it because the quest you need to continue the main quest does not activate. I have stopped playing Skyrim this week because I have exhausted most of the side quests and I have explored most of the world. I just want to play the main quest! Bethesda, please fix this bug!

Also, I think this bug occurs if you have contact with Brynjolf before you play the 'Diplomatic Immunity' quest, which is absolutely ridiculous. Test your game more before release, or patch it when you hear of the issue! I have never heard of a main quest breaking before, I mean, side quests in a game this big, sure, but NOT EVEN RECEIVING the next quest in the main storyline??? What the hell.....

Anyways... seriously? You can't play another character while you wait??

Dude... I have like 7 characters... all at various points and levels... and not cause I had to but just cause I wanted to.

How do you not even have 1 alt??

I like to finish an RPG before I start with a new character, kind of an obsessive compulsive thing haha, but that's not the point, they told me it would be patched in the next patch, two patches passed since that point with nothing.

You made 2 threads about the same subject? This won't get you your fix any faster.

Same thing happened to me, couldn't get the quest at all. I decided to restart an 80 hour character and actually had much more fun on my second character than my first. I also had hardly any bugs in my second character. If you don't have a save before Diplomatic Immunity was finished you are kind of out of luck.

If you have this on a PC you just use a console command to set the stage of the quest. If you have it for console, well you are just out of luck. Sorry, it svcks - but so do consoles :)

But yah... PC can fix anything just about with the comman console.

Kinda wish they woulda given us those.... I would put up with a virtual keyboard for it.

The console command doesn't actually work for this, which is even more annoying.

I posted twice about this because I realised it should be in the bugs section not general discussion.

I included this in the Unofficial Buglist thread in the Bugs forum when I encountered it in my first playthrough. Console was virtually useless, as a number of different setstage commands failed to start the quest. Best I could do was skip ahead to the midway point of Alduin's Wall (the next quest).
