A question about armor in Skyrim

Post » Sun Jun 03, 2012 5:00 pm

So I just got my first set of ebony armor in Skyrim. It had me wondering which race in Skyrim wears which armor. For example Elves wear .. well .. elven armor but I'm wondering which race would normally wear Ebony or Glass?

and since I'm on the subject of armor, what are some of your favorites out there in Skyrim? I personally like the blades set.

Dunmer wear Ebony and Glass. Since they made it. And since they made Ebony they basicly made Daedric, too.

Glass is definitely Elven in origin.
Ebony I don't know... but it seems like a simplified homage to daedric styles.

Most ebony and glass is found in Morrowind, but the Empire was really interested in getting their hands on the raw ebony, so the armor could be made by them also.

very interesting, I never played Morrowind but I can definitely see the 'elvish' design now that you mention it. More so in glass, I kinda always thought woodelves made those.

I'd just like to point out "elven" is basicly Altmer. I rarely every see Bosmer and Dunmer in Elven.

very true. I havent seen dunmer or alrmer in elevn either. Maybe it has something to do with them (the ones not wearing it) being Thalmor haters.

Ebony and Glass (Malachite) is mass-mined in the volcanic setting of Morrowind; it is the reason Tiber Septim wanted to induct Morrowind into his Empire. He succeeded in this by allowing the Dunmer to worship their Tribunal.

Altmer wear and most likely made Elven Armor. Bosmer probably wear it too, but would definitely need smaller sizes; Bosmer seem more like they would wear hide or leather though.

Daedric armor is a mystery; it was clearly made by a mage or a smith with knowledge of summoning and binding Daedra. Daedric armor is simply Ebony armor with a Lesser Daedra bound to it permanently.

You didn't ask about steel or iron, but chances are it probably began with the Atmorans and Yokudans.

Orichalcum was obviously created by the Orsimer.

Back in the days of Daggerfall, Orcish was a form of impure Ebony. The Orcs, being expert metalworkers, had figured out how to use Ebony Ore that was otherwise impossible to work with and make equipment that was only outperformed by Glass, pure Ebony, and Daedric. Orcish was also rare and expensive because the Orcs were still fighting for entry into the Empire. (Yes, the Orcs were never conquered, they forced the emperor to let them join!)

Of course, back then, you didn't want iron or steel equipment at all, because a bunch of stuff was immune to it.

very informative, thank you! makes you appreciate armor a little more when you have an idea where it comes from or how rare it is in Skyrim.

Thats another game I gotta get around to playing. I got Oblivion for the PC when it first came out and really enjoyed it.

Things being immune to certain weapon types sounds pretty difficult. but it makes sense, a dull iron blade against a decked out ebony knight... I can see that causing very little damage no matter how hard you can hit.

The design of glass armor and weapons are much more Altmerish than Dunmerish I'd say, and the Thalmor soldiers begins to prance about in it once you're around lvl 50. I'm guessing they're importing raw glass from Morrowind?
