reversing bounty in Markarth

Post » Sun Jun 03, 2012 5:35 pm

I did something I am unhappy with, and I think I was kind of led astray.
I am not positive about the names or quest names. I was in the prison in Markarth and the following revolt. As we broke out, the revolters simply walked over the city guards and I took that this meant they were taking over the city. Mostly because they didnt break out and run for the gates, they ran all over slaughtering everything. Now for whatever reason, the guards did go after me after the break out, so I had to defend. Now i have a crazy bounty on me as whenever i return to the city i have to punt around the city guards. Is there a command i can use to get rid of this bounty?

I get it, live with consequences, but I dont want this city to be unusable to me, and the bounty just keeps going up as they attack on sight, not letting me surrender to just pay off my debt.

Are you on PC? If so, there is a command, I believe, to clear crime bounty.

If not, I strongly suggest you restore the save you made before everyone escaped from Cidhna and then just... hide. I had the same thing happen, where I was getting attacked, fighting and then the next morning, any time I got spotted... attacked again. One the reload, I hung back, and I think I just went into the inn or something, just stayed away from any combat. The problem may have been my companion, iirc, who was waiting outside the prison. So you can duck into the inn, where he will follow, or tell him to wait somewhere.

This is a known bug. Sorry. Hopefully you're on PC and can use the console.

Stay away from Markath for at least 30 days. If you haven't shown yourself in the place you're wanted for a while, guards will no longer actively pursue you when you return. They will however say 'Hey, I know you' when they're near you. Do not talk to them, because then you get locked in a conversation where they remember you and you're facing the bounty again.

And later in the game you have so much money you can pay any bounty they give you.

That svcks. I just watched them as they killed all the guards. They didn't kill any towns people at all. Only the Silver Blood leader of the town and the overseer. I had no issues with the town after other than the random "I heard you broke out of Chidna Mine with the Forsworn, Do you have any idea how many people died?"

Anyway,
According to the game guide, if you have a big enough bounty, you can wander around in the wilderness for a few in game days and you should eventually be found by a bounty collector who you can pay off your debt to. It says to keep moving and to not just wait.

Give that a try and see if he shows up for you.

I kept reloading and re-doing the Forsworn Conspiracy finale until I got the outcome that somewhat satisfied me the most (though there isn't a satisfying ending really). Yet weird things happened and keep happening. Must be bug, or the game doesn't recognize every difference in the end. So in my final version I exited tunnel right after the forsworns, and sniped the leader right away, and rushed to kill every forsworn before they get to go on civilian killing spree, also trying to save Silverblood [censored] in the process (because I hoped to say something in his face later on). When the battle was over with all forsworns and a couple city guards dead, weird things happened. Silverblood approached me and gave gratitude speech, then right after the dialogue went hostile on me again, along with the guards. I spammed "R" button back and forth, to no avail, then run back into the tunnel, they followed, I used invisibility potion and run as far as I could. Eventually Silverblood gave up on me, but guards were still hostile later on. Finally I managed to get them iniciate arrest dialogue, and then LMAO I got away with telling them that I'm teh thane.

Still, even though I personally shot King In Rags in the head, civilians keep telling me that he's on the lose, and I'm suspected to be involved in that. The latter is true, but heck, I killed him, and all his lollygaggers.

thanks guys.
i am on pc.
If it takes 30 days away, or a bounty hunter, i can just wait on that. At lvl 42, it was just easier to keep going back to do business and bounce the guards around. Luckily there was no real residual effect on the world around me.

thanks for info.

I tried the console command to fix this bug. It only made matters worse since the entire city turned on me. I can only hope the devs fix it with yet another patch and if not, I hope some modders can do something with it. I'm getting sick of hearing, "Wait, I know you." I'm constantly yelling at my computer, 'I got pardoned you fools!'
